Reviews of The Wicklow Escape

Absolutely everything, from start to finish, was perfection. Best stay I’ve ever had anywhere. The food is out of this world, the staff couldn’t do enough for you, the location is perfect for hiking the next day, the hot tub with a glass of Prosecco was the perfect way to unwind. The company of the other guests was also lovely, everyone got on so well. We are already planning our next trip.

My husband and I were at the Wicklow Escape for a weekend stay and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was outstanding and the setting is fabulous. Really enjoyed the hot tub and being looked after so well. Many thanks to Christoph, Natalie, Danni and Lisa. Hope to be back next year.

We had the most wonderful weekend at The Wicklow Escape and loved every moment there.
From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome and immediately relaxed into the beautiful surroundings. Food was amazing - we particularly loved that we had such a variety of meals from the same talented chef. Wine was very well paired and plenty of it!
The bedrooms are small but the attention to detail was so good - beautiful woodwork, decoration and super comfy bed. We felt very comfortable in our room. Loved the hot tub!
The staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough to help - we particularly loved the fact that there was no pretentious attitude about the food and wine - just genuinely delicious, beautifully presented plates.
We would highly recommend this experience to any foodies out there or if you just want 2 wonderful 'get away from it all' days.
Keep up the wonderful work and we hope to be back!

From the moment we arrived we were looked after by Conrad, Natalie and rest of the team.
The place is in a beautiful setting, surrounded by mature oak and beech trees at the foot of the Sugarloaf (west Wicklow). It's a fantastic location for lovers of hillwalking, especially if you use the hot tub after your walk.
The room is beautifully and very tastefully furnished and the bed is unbelievably comfortable. The food is excellent, from breakfast to the lovely packed lunch we got on Saturday, (which we took up the mountain with us) to the evening meals ( in a beautiful dining room). All excellent. I'd highly recommend the Wicklow Escape.

I enjoyed a fabulous weekend in The Wicklow Escape and found it the perfect venue to switch off from the world and just relax and unwind.
The whole weekend was design to help destress guests by immersing themselves in the lovely Wicklow surroundings and indulging in delicious food and drink. Guests can be as active as they want by choosing to trek up the Wicklow Mountains and cycling around the area, or they can lounge around on hammocks and drink G&Ts at picnic tables.
Rooms are thoughtfully designed and decorated, compact with beautiful furnishings. The food and wine is divine and there is plenty of it, and the overall ambience is calm and relaxing.
We'll definitely go again.

Every moment of our trip was amazing! It's such an intimate foodie experience in such a beautiful setting. The bed is comfortable, the room is warm and clean, the food is delicious (Danni and Niamh are fantastic in the kitchen together), the hot tub was magical, the scenery is stunning, it's peaceful and a perfect place to explore. Karen made us feel so relaxed with our massages and treatments. Conrad went over and above for us constantly and the whole experience just blew us away! Thank you everyone for making our trip so perfect and special!!

We spend 2 nights at the Wicklow Escape. The Food, service, location was excellent and well worth the visit. The accommodation and facilities however whilst pretty was below expectation. The walls in our room were paper thin and we could hear the conversations next door. We had a door but no window so the curtains were pulled most of the time for privacy. During our stay there was a large group who stayed around the fireplace so when we went for a pre-dinner drink we had to sit at a dinner table, this happened on both nights. Space in general would appear to be a challenge (especially in the rain when everyone is indoors.) Everything is relative to the price you pay and in this instance the accommodation was very much a 3 star experience at a 5 star price. The food and service was a 5 star experience.

The Wicklow Escape was the perfect weekend away to relax and unwind. Very nice, friendly, engaging staff. Beautiful rooms that are clean, cosy and comfortable. Outdoor hot tub surrounded by nature where you can just enjoy the silence. Food that was easily the best we’ve had in Ireland in many years - it was truly exceptional! I can’t say enough about how lovely it was.
J. R.
We visited for dinner and have only positive things to say. The food was amazing and the staff were fantastic - they catered for any request. I was pleasantly surprised at the value given we had plenty of wine with each course. Overall a fantastic night and we'll definitely return

I couldn’t recommend The Wicklow Escape highly enough. We felt relaxed from the moment we arrived. It’s the personal touches which makes this a stand alone destination, from the welcome drink and superb nibbles on arrival to the intimate dining experience in the evening. The attention to detail in the menu from the food sourcing and wine pairings demonstrates the commitment and passion of the kitchen team. A dip in the hot tub in the trees just adds to the ‘Hygge’ feel. I felt refreshed and relaxed and did not want to leave. Joan Leahy

Number one the food was to die for - Michelin standard without Michelin price tag. Number two the service - all the staff but in particular Natalie - such a lovely warm person and a true professional. Number 3 the comfort- such a comfy bed and the peace and quiet - not a sound except for maybe the sound of the birds singing. Number 4 the location especially if you like walking/hiking - we walked from Blessington to Russborough House and back - a beautiful scenic marked 11.9k walk.

everything was simply superb. some of the dishes were perfect , could not be improved upon. A duck pie with a perfect crust and a dessert of choux, mascarpone and honey , a tasting menu par excellence, the legend that is Christophe who was so helpful as were all the staff . can't wait to return

An exceptional get away from the normal day to day life, very peaceful, a real escape from the city.
Dinner by the amazingly talented Danni Berry was without doubt my top dining experience to date.

My friend and I spent a Wednesday - Friday here a couple weeks ago, and it was a gorgeous experience! Very peaceful and cozy at the venue, and the food and wine were just heavenly. Wonderful staff and company as well. Excited to have this place continue to grow!

One of the best food experiences I have had. All cooked over wood in an outdoor kitchen was great to see.
The staff were all super nice and kept us well informed and served without making us feel rushed or annoying.

With a growing sense of dread that the summer was slipping away, we decided to escape to Wicklow. Despite the best efforts of the horrible weather to dampen proceedings this was an amazing weekend. Three days of outstanding food (local produce cooked by the amazing Danni Barry), treks in the woods and lounging in front of the wood stove with a gin and tonic in hand. The staycation package is full board and you will want for nothing - and that includes fantastic hospitality. Conrad and the team were exceptional.

Escape the rat race!....
Brilliant, amazing food, staff bend over backwards to please but aren't in your face when you don't want them. Well worth the money! I'll be back 👍😁

Fab fab FAB! Couldn't recommend the Wicklow escape highly enough. Lisa, Danni and Niamh made us feel very welcome . A real good energy and relaxing space.

My husband and I fell in love with the venue. Its close to Dublin and right by the foothills of the Wicklow mountains. Its truly picturesque!! We had a beautiful Wedding day and night! Working with Lisa, Amanda and Roz was so easy, they took all the stress out of planning. It was easy to trust in their vision for the day. The hand-made furniture, including a full length mirror, were beautiful and compliment the surroundings wonderfully. The food is still something we talk about; local produce and even some veg from the gardens. The rooms were very comfortable and everyone loved the robes! Family and friends continue to compliment us on finding such a gem. Words can't describe how beautiful it is and how much love and comfort we felt here. Truly a luxury home away from home. I would highly recommend this venue! If I could give more than 5 stars I would.
M. C.
We had a truly delightful and restorative stay at Elbowroom Escape. The setting is unbelievable, nestled at the start of a beautiful evergreen forest. The room was very comfortable, with piping-hot showers after a long day walking. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We can't wait to go back
T. Y.
I give 5 star on food, 4 on accommodation. It's a great place. Just a few minor things, to me, we're missing from the room.
M. H.
What a fabulous forest get away. Perfect for romantic get away, tech detach or family break. Food was absolutely amazing, the only issue afyer dinner was the fact my trousers felt too tight. The beds are a par with the most upmarket 5 star hotels I've stayed at, better than some. I love this place.

I had the immense pleasure to attend a friends' wedding in this beautiful location last December. Lisa and all the staff were incredibly accommodating, made us feel so looked after for the gorgeous dinner and canapes on day one and were the perfect level of hands off for our day 2 chilled celebration.
The space is unique, intimate and beautiful, nestled in the foothills of Wicklow mountains with beautiful trails and hike paths nearby, perfect for a special celebration with your nearest and dearest. I couldn't recommend it more and I'm looking forward to my next adventure there.

Attended a friends wedding here in December. Such an exceptional escape location. Lisa and the team we're amazing the attention to detail and touches on everything were just magic.
We arrived to fairy lights, the smell of mulled wine and the bustle of the wedding guests at the cabin area. This was a great mingling area where everyone can meet, chat and gather throughout the entire day/night. Lisa was on hand welcoming everyone and as we had never been there before and were in awe admiring everything around, Lisa gave us a tour of the place and we were fascinated with all the facilities they had available and the types of packages they run - (very interested in the Gin and yoga breakaway).
The meal was out of this world. Large portions but not over indulging sizes, plenty of everything and absolutely delish (nothing but perfection) and the staff were always available to check in on everyone, topping up drinks and so friendly.
The whole experience was stunning - Lisa and here team felt like friends, the Elbowroom felt like home, a memorable place to have spent a beautifully memorable day. Can't wait to get back.

My cousin got married here on the 7th of September 2019 and I have to say it was one of the most unique, romantic weddings I have ever attended.
I stayed the night before with the wedding party and the staff could not have been more helpful or attentive. The atmosphere was relaxing and chill and we had a great night. The next day, early, the staff were busy with preparations and making sure everything ran smoothly! The day went off perfectly!
The pictures were like something from a fairytale because of the scenery of the the place! The room which hosted the wedding and reception was cosy and decorated perfectly to represent the bride and groom!
Later on there was a BBQ when we all got hungry again and the food was just delicious!! It felt like a home away from home. Everyone was so welcoming and made sure each and everyone of the guests was satisfied! Wonderful experience! Highly recommend!

Myself and my husband Daniel chose the Elbowroom Escape for our wedding reception last December and we are so delighted that we did. We knew we wanted a small, intimate wedding with a different feel from the usual hotel venue. The Elbowroom Escape is such a beautiful setting, surrounded by forests and nature in a peaceful secluded area, but still easy for our guests to access from Dublin. From the beginning Lisa and her team made us feel so well taken cared of, they were so accommodating and always available to discuss our queries and ideas. They collaborated with us to create a day that really reflected myself and Daniel, with a relaxed and fun atmosphere that our guests really enjoyed. The three course wedding meal was really special - so many of our guests commented that it was the best food they'd ever had at a wedding!
The staff on the day were so friendly and efficient, everything ran smoothly with no trace of stress, meaning myself and Daniel were free to relax and let our hair down with our guests. It was such a special day, we can't recommend them enough!
D. M.
From the moment we set food in the place we were spoiled. We were indecisive and had plenty of annoying requirements throughout our stay, but Niall had the patience of a saint and made sure we were well taken care of. Couldn't recommend this place highly enough, and Niall is an absolute legend! If you get the chance to stay here, don't pass it up, the beds are absolutely amazing, the food is top class, and the energy of the whole place is gorgeous. Such a beautiful place to unwind and relax and perfectly situated as a base for hiking. Lisa and the whole team have created something incredible here and they should be extremely proud.
P.S: pro tip, don't feed the Hot Tub fire too soon, or you will be in a soup of your own making 😂

My sister and brother-in-law had their wedding at the Elbow Room Escape last September. The bridal party stayed the night before enjoying each other’s company and the very comfortable suites. On the day of the wedding everyone at the elbow room escape made sure it ran smoothly. The ceremony room was decorated with wild flowers from the gardens, and once the ceremony was finished the staff seemlessly changed the furniture creating the dining hall. This was done as the guests and wedding party enjoyed the gardens, took photographs and had drinks in the cabin. Everything was done without stress, platers of food taken around to guests prior dinner and in the evening we enjoyed a BBQ from the outdoor BBQ hut and picnic area. It was a fantastic escape from any hustle and bustle and a magical intimate way to celebrate the wedding.

A former youth hostel, this has been developed as a rustic retreat. I attended a wedding there in December. There is car parking space to the front of the building and a sloped upward area to the right houses a small wooden seomra where drinks are served. There was one bench for sitting on and right next door a fabric gazebo had been erected again with just one bench to sit on. There was nowhere to sit and chat collectively and the main common room was the only large indoor space where the food was being served so spent several freezing hours standing outdoors waiting for the meal to be served.
Bedrooms were basic but clean and warm.
The food provided by the venue was OK it was interesting and not too rich.
There were nice touches in the table decorations.
There is a fully equipped kitchen with lots of food storage.
The venue is set in woodland and on a previous visit in October I could appreciate the obvious charm of this rustic setting and in summer it must be lovely however it is weather dependent and if it had been raining or indeed snowing it would have made for a very unpleasant experience. As it was very cold and damp as one would expect in December I'd advise guests to dress warmly and layers. Also be prepared to be outdoors.
It would be great to have a pot bellied stove or some other outside heating facility though I understand there is a fire pit and an outdoor hot tub.
This is an ideal venue for a small family event like a birthday celebration, family reunion or a friends getaway. It is geared towards self catering though they did provide the main wedding meal. It is also geared towards a younger older audience so not suitable for very aged grandparents.
As a wedding venue it was different, and has potential but there could be some additions to make it a bit more comfortable for a wider audience.

After searching for a venue for our wedding for over a year by pure luck and chance we found this hidden gem.
We knew we wanted an intimate wedding in nature with locally sourced food and more importantly the ability to do our wedding our way.
What the team at the escape did for us was above and beyond our expectations. They helped guide us through every step of the process and were incredibly helpful.
For the day itself they put in a huge amount of additional work for us and even made me a special breakfast to help calm my nerves. The food was amazing, the fires were brilliant and we were able to dance into the night without annoying any neighbors.
I honestly can't thank the team enough for what they did not only was the wedding incredible and perfect for us but I still have guests a year later asking me to remarry they enjoyed it that much.
PS the hot tub is amazing too.

We had a truly great time at the Gincident event. Gin, Yoga and wood fired hot-tub! What's not to like! Its hard to sum up the Elbow Room Escape in a few words. Its a place like no other I've been to in Ireland. The location is beautiful. Surrounded by mountains, lovely walks, etc. The accommodation is top notch. Coziest beds ever.
Food at Elbow Room Escape is not fancy; no little plates of nibbles or swooshes of sauce etc. Its gorgeous, hearty, Veggie food!! Home-made, locally sourced, organic where possible and ridiculously tasty, Maybe its all the fresh air or something :)
What makes this place unique though are its people. Thank you Amanda and Lisa for being great hosts, great company and fab Gin connoisseurs ;)
You can bet we will be back !
Elaine, Louise and Julie!

- although no free alcoholic or alternative soft drinks, just standard coke
- 1st bedroom much smaller, we got different as we were only guest during our stay 👍
- entry glass doors, no windows to let air in during night
- couldn't find sockets next to the bed...🤓
- hot breakfast as additional charge what is unusual in comparison to those places, which we visited in the same price range
- continental breakfast was not served freshly in the morning but prepared the night before, quite unusual, never seen this before
- one breakfast was forgotten, we mentioned it and it was served 👍
- we asked for alternative vegan milks, free from diary butter but it wasn't served, we didn't repeat ourselves 😉
- meals options limited for vegans & vegetarians, only 1 contain proteins as chickpeas, two other dishes have only carbohydrates meaning meals are not well balanced in terms of nutritions
- food was tasty although it seems like pasta, couscous are freshly cooked, vegetables are maybe prepared, this is not certain, it is just a feeling as we were super hungry and was super late, maybe, because it arrived so super fast, a chef is super chef 😉
- no ability to prepared own food 24/h in e.g the dining room as missing the proper sink, electric stove
- hot tube way too expensive for us, for us maybe not for others 😉
- lack of answering to the phone few times + although promptly replying to emails👍👏
- we couldn't find lockers in a dormitory, maybe there are somewhere 🤔
- corridor in between
❤ to
* have option next time to place a bike and lock it with own lockers although area is safe enough but if we would take our bikes next time, it will be handy as the entry gate is open, just to be super certain especially with high quality bikes it is only a simple ramp to place and have a peace of mind
* basic SPA treatments, massage, one day maybe steamroom
* outdoor yoga, self yoga practice and meditation room
* kids friendly, playground and indoor
* we had opportunity to see a nice decoration and the preparation to the upcoming wedding, if that's would be our wedding, love to see more long standing candles for additional lights, romantic love quotes painted on the wood, maybe old black&white vintage photographs in frames, more natural flowers and maybe benches arranged differently for guests for easier access

We had a lovely break here for the Gincident. The cabins were luxurious- loved the fluffy robes! The gin making was great fun and the yoga hit the perfect balance between exercise and relaxation. The food was lovely and tasty. Generally, the whole vibe was a lovely mix of well organised and relaxed and I’d love to go back!

What a treat. I taught a yoga retreat there in November and I couldn't have been happier with the accommodation, the food, the facilities and its location. The bathrooms are en suit, complete with monsoon shower. The bedrooms are tastefully decorated. Handmade clothes rails and alpaca throws decorate the beds - the comfiest I've slept in for years- lie beneath dewdrop chandeliers. The hot tub was unbelievable and most welcome after a long hike.
A. F.
Beautiful place, our rooms were clean, warm, and had the comfiest bed. The shower was amazing too! We enjoyed the hiking behind the retreat, the dining cabin, and the peacefulness of the location. Highly recommend.

Took the kids for a couple of nights to this wonderful place. It's so peaceful, the perfect place if you want to get away from it all. But really close to lots of interesting activities for kids or if you're a tourist. Our kids had a lot of fun playing in the beautiful garden and on the swing, not to mention the bunk beds! Thanks for a great stay!

The Elbowroom escape is just that. It has all the coziness of the modern world , excellent beds, amazing healthy food, hot tub and every girls dream- never ending hot water! But, it is also surrounded by landscape that reminds me of my childhood holidays. The tranquility in nature is so refreshing. It's hard to believe that there is such an unspoilt part Ireland so close to Dublin. Go. Recharge.

Thanks again for an amazing weekend. It was above and beyond any expectations!!
A warm and friendly atmosphere was the order of the weekend at the Elbowroom Escape.
Amanda's organisational skills left us with nothing to do but relax.
Bev's Yoga Nidra class on Friday night with its beautiful visualisations combined wth her soothing voice left the group floating all the way to a brilliant night's sleep.
The food was wholesome, nutritious and delicious. Rooms, beds and facilities are 5*+ standards.
The smell of the woodfire burning, the hot tub!! (I could have stayed there forever).
The whole vibe was amazing., and it is without hesitation I would recommend a weekend away to kickstart a change in your work life balance.
Heaven is only just over hour away!

Prendergast Leadership used the Elbowroom on the 17th of November as the location for a group event we conducted for Kildare LGFA. The location was perfect. Outdoors, near the mountains with all the comforts of a great hotel. When we were planning the event the staff were so helpful and on the day of the event they delivered on their promise. The highlight of the day was the evening meal. It was so good it received a standing ovation from the group.
M. B.
I hosted retreats already twice there and every time I had a wonderful experience. The accommodation, the yoga room with a fireplace and the food, all perfect. And the location is stunning. I highly recommend this place and I will be back for more retreats.

The food was simply delicious and the staff were all excellent!

This is such a magical place! I had the most amazing weekend with friends of mine in April I just had to write a review. So close to dublin yet you feel you are miles away! The food was glorious and the bedrooms are so cosy! You have to go and experience this little slice of paradise for yourself 💗

A wonderful place, calm and really relaxing. The staff are kind and so helpful. The garden is amazing and full of life. If you are looking for a holiday get away that doesn't damage the environment, this is the place.

A little corner of heaven. Beds you could spend forever in. Food is super healthy but tastes like you are treating yourself. Gorgeous walks, local massage therapists and a studio with a huge fireplace. Yum!!!!

Beautiful surroundings matched by beautifully decorated accommodation and smashing food. A little piece of heaven. Book for events, retreats parties or just a country escape. Love It!

Nice location, cosy rooms, friendly staff and great food. The 5th star goes exclusively to the shower equiped in our room 🤣

Lovely retreat in Wicklow. Very relaxing with beautiful garden, use of kitchen facilities and a wooden cabin breakfast room .

There is no element of the Elbowroom Escape which is unconsidered. The bedding, the food, the location -- it is all truly deeply gorgeous! I could not recommend it more.

Stunning location, at the foot of Lugnaquilla, delicious food, peaceful and well-appointed facilities. A must for a retreat under 60 mins from south Dublin.
