Reviews of Glenlo Abbey Hotel and Estate
Absolutely gorgeous property and exceptionally friendly staff. From checking in to checking out, the staff gave excellent recommendations and were very easy to talk with. The breakfast was phenomenal and the cocktail lounge was dangerous (in the good way of staying up too late just chatting the night away). Also, the falconry experience is one to NOT skip and the Pullman was quite the culinary trip!
Overall, we had a disappointing stay at Glenlo. While some of the staff such as the doormen, reception and bar staff were very friendly, we felt there wasn't a 5 star service. We had some issues with food in the Pullman and when one instance was raised with a waitress the response didn't fill us with confidence. We didn't get the 5 star experience we had expected. This was a shame as we were very excited ahead of our stay and had hoped it would be a contender for our Wedding.
We had an amazing time here, the welcome was just so friendly. We dined in the Pullman restaurant and the food was divine. Absolutely top notch, and the Churchill Manhattan was about the best cocktail I've ever tasted. We'll be back!
I am writing this review on behalf of my parents, who recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary at Glenlo Abbey Hotel, which is just on the edge of Galway city - a fantastic base from which to explore the whole county.
From the moment they arrived, they felt the 5 star treatment. They were greeted by the warm and hospitable Melissa at reception, who made them feel very welcome and special by personally accompanying them to their room. In fact, this sense of hospitality permeated the entire hotel across all the staff.
My parents spent most of their time in the lounge area during their stay, which was so homely and inviting, exuding an air of elegance and class through the exquisite furnishings and classical music that provided the perfect ambient background.
Martin, the waiter in The Pullman Restaurant, continued the 5 star service in the unique restaurant setting of the Orient Express carriages. If you enjoy a novelty, sublime food and impeccable service, this really is for you!
From start to finish, they absolutely loved their stay. Thank you so much to all the staff at Glenlo for making it a celebration to remember.
We had our wedding in Glenlo Oct 2021 just the best experience, lots of guest stayed for 3 nights, many meals & drinks everything was excellent. The venue is top class really everything is really nice, clean and beautiful. But most notable is the staff are excellent.
We have just had a short break at the Glenlo and it has been from start to finish the most fabulous experience.
All the staff from the front door to the house keepers are so professional and helpful. The attention to detail through out the hotel is second to none.
We attended a wedding on Saturday and we’re blown away by the hotel. Friendly and helpful staff, along with a beautiful wedding ceremony. One member of staff in particular, Theresa went above and beyond.
The service was amazing, my family and I really enjoyed the food and overall experience. The staff was also very friendly. Along with that, the view was beautiful. 10/10
Absolutely stunning hotel in every way. I have been here many times and I have never been disappointed. The rooms are so luxurious and comfortable, the staff are so friendly and helpful, the food is amazing and the grounds and views are breathtaking. It is my favorite hotel in Ireland.
Dont think about it - just book it!
I can not say enough great things about this hotel. I booked the Glenlo abbey hotel for my Father's 60th Birthday. Every single person who I interacted with during the booking and the run up to my Father's arrival were absolutely amazing. The staff were all so helpful and professional. When my parents arrived they were greeted by staff at the door saying Happy Birthday to my Dad, they were also upgraded to probably one of the nicest rooms they have ever had the pleasure to stay in. My parents did the Falconry which they said was an amazing experience and Jason Deasy the master falconer who was so knowledgeable. They also had dinner aboard the stunning Pullman Restaurant which is a must if your staying here. Every part of there stay was 5 stars and they said the staff could not do enough for them and were so friendly. They felt so safe staying here and nothing was hindered with the extra safety measures that are in place during covid. They have not stopped talking about the Glenlo since they returned and will definitely return again. I myself will definitely be booking a stay with my husband as soon as we can. It's great that a hotel and staff like this still exist and it was a pleasure dealing with everyone. Well Done to all the staff at The Glenlo Abbey Hotel.
Delightful we thoroughly enjoyed our stay staff were extraordinarily friendly to us and our toddler. The Pullman restaurant is a super experience. Top marks
Perfection!!!You will be greeted by the warmest welcome thanks to Troy, the head doorman. The entire staff is very personable and courteous. We have celebrated our wedding here, as well as a few romantic getaways, Glenlo has never disappointed. The rooms are spectacular, they gave the softest sheets. The roomswith bathtubs are my favorite! My favorite breakfasts, I’ve ever had have in Ireland have been at Glenlo. The seafood chowder, and brown bread is also the best I have had in Ireland. The bartenders take their Mixology seriously, and you will be delighted with the results. Their old fashion is on point. There are some lovely walks around the property, right along Lough Corrib. The golf course is magnificent and I can’t wait to play on it, and they also have a driving range. I have had a few ladies teas here, which I highly recommend. ( the kitchen even made me some vegetarian options) They have recently added a spa, which I cannot wait to try. My favorite surprise, is that they have a movie theatre. This place is the BEST!!!!
Great experience over a few days but they really should try to fix their wonky fixtures (from lights to candles)
We had a small.. a very small wedding thanks to lockdown on Jan 4th 2021. We were made to feel so special. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. Special shout out to Kate, James Hannah who went out of their way to make the occasion of our son's wedďing so special. Kind, considerate, attention to detail...just excetional service. Thank you!
Really beautiful hotel with superb service and wonderful grounds. We came here for a wedding and stayed for 3 nights. Service was impeccable, friendly and super helpful. The rooms were really comfortable and the breakfast was lovely. All round fab experience, would highly recommend.
It's a place you can only dream about going to. Staff were impeccable and the experience of the movie theatre was a nice added touch. Troy greeting you as soon as you arrive is an absolute pleasure and is guaranteed to make your experience even more enjoyable
The most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed in .. like stepping back in time. The movie theatre was a real treat. Staff are friendly, doormen are so welcoming and the bar staff were so attentive. We didn’t want to go home ... will definitely be going back.
My Dad got married here. I upgraded to a suite which was a disaster. The suite was terrible designed, furniture was either broken or mis matched. The separate living room was huge with very little furniture. I requested many times that the fire be lit but due to health and safety I was told no. Woke up the next morning freezing and to the sound of clanking. The pipes didn't work and the smell from the toilet and bath pipes was just disgusting.
I complained to the staff and it seemed no one cared. The breakfast was very nice and I did return to eat on their train which was simply delicious which is why they get 3 stars. Based on the hotel 0 stars. I would never again sleep here.
Beautiful hotel, very quiet really. Ideal for R&R. Not really for children, no pool.
Pasquale, the bar man in the Palmer Bar was so nice and friendly. Worth a visit there. Eat on the train, Food was lovely. X
This has been THE most fabulous place we have stayed in a trip full of wonderful castles and hotels. The people on the staff go above and beyond to take care of everything you could possibly want! Dinner in a car from the Orient Express was, for me a train lover, the highest point of my day. And the food was to die for!! I will come back here on my next trip to Ireland.
We stayed for one night here after visiting the Cliffs of Moher on the way up to Northern Ireland. This was a great luxury accommodation to recharge our batteries. We had originally planned on seeing Galway, but after several days of hiking and driving around the countryside, we decided that this was the perfect place to relax and pamper ourselves a little. The room was very comfortable, the hotel is beautiful and the grounds are lovely. The bar and lounge area, with an excellent piano player, was great. Don't miss out on eating at the Pullman Restaurant! Dining on an original car of the Orient Express is definitely a unique experience - and the food was great too! Book in advance if you want to reserve the older (and more historic) of the two cars.
The highlight of our hotel stays! Amazing staff, A.M.A.Z.I.N.G food ( seriously, so good). Rooms were nice.....only issues ( and im stretching here....no A.C in the room and the bathroom door didn't stay open so it got incredibly hot and humid in the bathroom) Other than that it was amazing and we are already planning our next stay ;)
Beautiful grounds and service. No AC made it a tad too warm during our visit, but rooms do have fans for warmer weather. Nice rooms, except bathroom door can't stay open, it automatically shuts.
Beautiful location with amazing sunrises. Attentive and accommodating staff. The food was really good, but not absolutely amazing (except for the desserts). Would recommend to anyone staying in Galway.
Friendly staff, great breakfast, and nice rooms!
I would definitely recommend the falconry even though it is on the pricey side. The falconer and the golf instructors were very kind to us and seemed passionate about what they were doing.
It's a great hotel. The front door man is a gentleman. He is very welcoming and made us feel very much at home. We will definitely go there again. 🌟🎉😀
If the was a six star hotel, this would be the place to be, along with very fine dining, a beautiful and yet challenging 18-hole golf course in emmaculent condition in a quiet and scenic location.
Arrived late which meant we were beyond the time for our pre-arranged dinner which we had booked but we need not have worried as the reception staff immediately re-assigned us to a later time and so we got a very nice dinner which we were not expecting, that was a very nice start to our visit. The rest of our stay was excellent, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was perfect and we have no complaints with our stay. I will visit there again and have no problem in recommending the Glenlo Abbey Hotel.
There were 4 of us who stayed, the rooms were fabulous and the grounds were perfect for a relaxing walk, we had great meal on the two pulman carriages, any one who is thinkin off going down you will have a lovely meal. I had the pork belly for mains and crab for starters and finished with a cheese board it was just the ticket to round off a wonderful over night stay
Tranquil place with gorgeous expansive grounds (mainly for golf). Rooms are luxurious, staff is polite and gets to know you during your stay, and the breakfast and lunch are very nice. The Pullman Oriental Express train (for dinner) is absolutely delightful and a really neat experience. Worth doing is a ground walk and falconry event with Jurgen. He absolutely loves birds and is knowledgable (26+ years) and a peaceful, easygoing person.
Fantastic hotel, helpful friendly staff and had great dining experience in the Pullman restaurant.
Good location on the outskirts of Galway (maybe a 5-minute ride into town). There are just no "great" hotels in the thick of Galway, thus Glenlo serves a valid purpose. Hotel needs a bit of a refresher. A bit stale and dated. Rooms were comfortable though. Again, there aren't many options for lodging in Galway. Note to hoteliers: GO OPEN SOMETHING IN GALWAY!!!
Great view from a great room from a great Hotel. Including Pullman carriage from the orient express which is now a fine dining restaurant.
Very nice place with very helpful staff. Food was a tad pricey for the quality, but decent. Beautiful looking golf course that I did not have a chance to play.
Really enjoyed our recent stay at Glenlo. Fantastic staff, accommodation, food and ambience warrants a return visit! Many thanks for such a warm and genuine welcome!
Very nice grounds, went here for lunch food wasn't as good as when I last visited a couple of years ago but still reasonable. Popular wedding venue so best to avoid at that time as gets very busy.
Lovely hotel, polite, attentive and courteous staff, good portions of nicely prepared and presented fare. Vegetables nice and crisp. Good ice cream
Amazing hotel, incredible staff, and the falconry was a highlight of our trip to Ireland. This classic hotel had a superb breakfast too!
Room was clean and cozy. Staff was very friendly and accommodating, and helpful. Food was great. Location was beautiful, tucked out of the way
Amazing. Beautiful facilities, grounds are stunning. Rooms are large and nicely decorated. Staff was more than welcoming.
Fantastic set up there at the moment. They have a trailer where you can order coffees and plenty of seating outside
Great experience , fantastic staff especially Vito in the train looked after us really well . 5*service, would recommend anyone to visit. We will be back !!
Really enjoyed my first visit to Glenlo Abbey
A must place to visit, has lovely afternoon tea serve by a very pleasent young man.
The most stunning 5* Hotel with grounds, character & ambience that will blow your mind... Yoga in this hotel, beside Lake Corrib is a magical experience.
Stunning! The staff was helpful, the food wonderful, and only 10 minutes outside of Galway. We loved our experience!
It was a lovely evening, staff in bar very friendly and welcoming, atmosphere brilliant.will definitely go back.
Very fancy as Galway goes. It's a nice location with great views. Staff are decent.
Good food in unique surroundings attended by friendly staff.
Fantastic spot for a walk around the grounds, lovely selection for afternoon tea and super friendly staff

Lovely grounds and building. Superb evening meal. Warm, welcoming staff.
Gorgeous hotel, great service. Could do with more baby change stations though
Fabulous. Friendly staff. Had dinner in the Pullman restraunt also fabulous. A Unique step back in time .
5 star prices for 4 star quality, which gives a 3 star review. Might be worthwhile if you get a good deal.
Lovely location to have a coffee, beautiful views and in safety.
Always a pleasure to capture wedding days here. The friendliness and professionalism from staff is 5 star.
Beautiful Hotel, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff! Would highly recommend!
Beautiful hotel. Fantastic service and food. Could not recommend it more
Great place to stay, make sure you look at the carriages from the orient express
!ation, Very good food, a golf course within the grounds and a very friendly staff.
Pure Peace n Quiet & ALL what you'd expect from an Authentic Period 5star Hotel ...love it !
Fab hotel and good food but cooked breakfast is disappointing as it seems to be prepared well in advance of being served.
Really great food, amazing scenery and food. Very polite staff!
This place is heaven on earth, it is so very elegant and splendidly furnished and decorated in the style of a bygone era.
Beautiful hotel - Orient express coaches are an amazing touch!
Beautiful hotel with fantastic ways to spend your time
Yeeessss- what a nice hideaway, perfect teatime- nice service
Amazing views and beautiful setting for dinner in the Orient Express railcar.
Santa experience was very good. Its an excellent setting and the staff are fantastic
No gym. Fairly meh for a supposedly higher end property.
Lovely staff, lovely views couldn't ask for better.
Beautiful bar and very interesting photos and painting about place history
Very nice staff and great breakfast.
The Pullman Restaurant was a real treat. Something different a great experience.
This is one of Ireland's best hotels, without a doubt!
Really top notch place. Beautifully scenic and comfortable.

We spent two nights of our honeymoon at this hotel and it was a fabulous experience. The hotel is gorgeous, staff is warm and helpful, and the restaurants were very good. If we ever return to Galway, we will be sure to return to this very special place. Thank you, Glenlo Abbey, for the wonderful experience.
I had the best experience at this hotel in Ireland! The breakfast was fantastic, with a delicious selection that started my day off perfectly. The atmosphere was enhanced by lovely music, and the service was top-notch. The staff were incredibly attentive, making the whole experience feel warm and welcoming. Highly recommended!
One of the premier hotels in Ireland. Amazing experience from start to finish. Friendly staff go out of their way for guests. The Pullman restaurant is such a unique experience and well worth a visit. The Falconry experience was our highlight though, Jason from Ireland Outdoors was a brilliant host and very entertaining. Answered all our questions with enthusiasm and knowledge. Would highly recommend.
We stayed in a two-bedroom lodge at Glenlo Abbey, which was wonderful. The lodge was immaculate and was well-equipped with everything we needed, including a washer and dryer. The beds and rooms were comfortable and well-sized, and the lodge was quiet. The grounds are beautiful. Would definitely recommend especially for larger groups or families.
Amazing hotel from the minute you arrive. We were greeted by Philip who helped with our bags. Check in was quick and staff was friendly. The rooms were amazing, so well appointed. We had lunch at palmers, drinks at the hotel bar (shoutout to Leo) and breakfast was lovely, cold buffet and hot made to order options. The grounds and landscaping are beautiful. Short cab ride to town. We were so sad when it was time to leave and hope to return some day.
First, the good: Glenlo Abbey is a GORGEOUS property, with sweeping views and amazing buildings. You really feel like you've stepped back in time. It's close enough to the Galway city center to experience that but far enough to feel like you're on a provincial estate away from it all.
The golf course looks gorgeous, the Pullman car is a fantastic touch (unfortunately we didnt have a chance to partake in a meal there), and the rooms are very well appointed and spacious.
Breakfast was delicious and classy, with some unfortunate service hiccups (discussed below.) This is definitely a place you want to come to for several days to enjoy all of the amenities.
Unfortunately, there were several missteps that will probably inhibit our return. Generally, the service was friendly but chaotic and absent. Both in the bar and in the breakfast restaurant they are both understaffed and undertrained. People waiting 15-20 minutes to just order a drink at the bar. The nicest bartender had no idea how to make cocktails (at over 15 euro/pop) and we had to have them remade by a more experienced guy. (Again, super nice about it, but admitting you don't normally make drinks in the bar is a not a good start!) And at breakfast we were just ignored. 10, 15, 20 minutes until we could order something. no offer for coffee. finally the coffee did come AFTER we were done with our meals, about 30+ mins after we sat down. I'm not a rushed person, but when you're paying $500+ per night for a room, you expect a certain level of service that this hotel just doesnt have, unfortunately.
Finally, we booked our room through a credit card travel portal, as we had points to burn. I never do this, but it was clear that the hotel treated us worse than others. We only stayed for one night and one of our rooms was horrible. they claimed they were sold out, but why not give someone who checked in after us that horrible room? It was a handicap room with a terrible bathroom and the entire room smelled like paint. Just not what you expect when paying this kind of money (even through an OTA). Next time we will book directly, but the hotel should not relegate certain bookings to their terrible rooms.
Glenlo Abbey is a beautiful 5 star hotel! We were looking for a short break and couldn’t have picked a better hotel for a luxurious but relaxing stay! The rooms are excellent, the facilities are superb and the staff is extremely good. I’m sorry I couldn’t remember all names but Michael at the door and Storm (hope i got the name right) at reception were providing genuine hospitality from the moment we parked our car.
We will certainly be back !
Thank you
Katy & Michael
We loved our anniversary stay at Glen lo abbey!
The estate is beautiful, its very secluded with lots of greenery surrounding. Our room was equally stunning the decor is classic and the marble bathroom was lovely.
We also had a view of the Pullman train restaurant from our room which is where we had our 4 course meal.We both got steak and asked for medium rare but it was cooked very rare.My partner did have stomach issues after eating our meal.
The cocktails though were lovely and the overall vibe of the restaurant is really unique,we loved it! Its a once in a lifetime dinner.
The breakfast room was beautiful! The only downside was my fry that I ordered, there was some soggy toast underneath the scrambled eggs which made me believe it was someones leftovers which wasn’t nice to find as it was a small piece of bread not a full or cut slice.
Overall its a lovely hotel! More attention to detail and it would be a 5 star.
My wife treated me to a 55 minute massage and it was with a young lady called jayde. She went above and beyond from start to finish, would definitely recommend
Beautiful Hotel, Lovely people, excellent amenities, great food. The BEST Hotel I’ve every stayed at, and I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels. Glenlo is a great place to enjoy all day or in the evenings after a day of exploring. There are beautiful lounge areas, a movie theater, and restaurants serving up delicious fare. I loved every minute I stayed here. The staff were just delightful people, especially Michael. Breakfast each morning was a treat to see, smell, and eat! Would highly recommend and would want to stay here again if I visit Ireland again.
Very pleasant and outgoing staff.
Lovely grounds with a 9-hole golf course you can walk around.
Interesting Pullman Restaurant, a converted train car.
Country English decor in public rooms and restaurants, high quality furnishings and restaurant table settings.
Some issues with my original room.
Stunning hotel with beautiful grounds and an amazing restaurant in the Pullman.
The staff were welcoming and helpful, even going as far as to upgrade us for free on arrival.
Breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfasts I've had and the room itself was very comfortable. The only negative was the shower which was a bit low on pressure but it's a very minor issue given how great everything else was during our stay.
We stayed in one of the lodges and have to say the quality of these is amazing. Great place to stay with a family as everyone had their own room. Upon checking out we had to ask to see if there was availability for a month or two away as we didn’t want to leave.
We had a wonderful romantic stay here to celebrate my Hubby’s birthday. Melissa was so welcoming and friendly on check in as were the porters who helped us with our cases. Are bedroom was fabulous, spacious and well situated. The Bvlgari bath products were a lovely and unique touch. After settling in we popped to the bar for a late lunch and some drinks and all was impeccable. The team were welcoming and friendly and provided recommendations with great menu and drinks knowledge and we relaxed here for a couple of hours over good food, a great pint of Guinness (according to himself!) and great wine. A quick trip to the cocktail bar for a pre dinner drink was fabulous with beautiful piano music and a very warm and cozy setting. We were excited for dinner in the Pullman and it didn’t disappoint. Hugo was so helpful and friendly. The food was divine with a great wine list to accompany it. Service initially was slow but as we were relaxing with nowhere to be it really wasn’t a problem! The pace between courses was spot on and we weren’t rushed out so we were happy. Breakfast service was busy but welcoming despite this. I ordered a favourite - eggs Royal and requested if I could have the Holland size sauce on the side. Unfortunately this was forgotten but it was no big deal, I could see the team were busy so I didn’t mention it. We finished up with a friendly check out and a very much appreciated assistance again with our cases in the lashings of rain! We will definitely be back.
Brilliant hotel for small winter wedding. Small chapel and river room was perfect setting for 30 person wedding. Food and staff were amazing. Room was spacious, clean and bed was so comfy. Special thanks to Kate for all her help with the wedding preparations.
We have literally just returned from Glenlo Abbey after an amazing 3 night stay. Check in was very fast and Storm showed us to our beautiful King Room which overlooked the gardens at the back of the building. Each day we could watch the falconry sessions from our window. The staff were so friendly especially Michael
[ doorman] who was very informative as well as a pleasure to talk with. Géred [ assistant manager] and Jack [ manager] in Palmers Bar were very efficient and never stopped serving customers and clearing plates. Katerina [ Glo Spa] who gave me the best massage ever. Excellent at her profession. Food was first class, fabulous breakfasts and our meal in Pullmans Restaurant was a lovely experience. We had no issues with queuing for breakfast or waiting to be served at the bar. Staff were extremely attentive. We have stayed in Ashford Castle before and this hotel is way up there with the 5 stars. A hugh thank you to all the staff and in particular to those named. They all made it a memorable weekend for my husband and I. We will definitely return next year.
This place was just magical - can't recommend enough. Friendly staff, very clean grounds, all kinds of places to just sit and chill out. Falconry?! - yeah pretty cool - chatted up Jason about this and learned all kinds of things - awesome his birds are all Star Wars names lol. Food was excellent - HIGHLY recommend Pullman for dining - such a unique venue - whole other review on that. Awesome stay here!
Glenlo Abbey is incredibly beautiful! The best part of our stay, though, was certainly the staff. The kindness and hospitality were beyond 5 star quality, and I would highly recommend a stay here! I hope to visit again some day. 🇮🇪 P.S. I found a 4 leaf clover 🍀 💚🤍🧡
I was looking forward to getting away much needed break. The location was good, the room was comfortable. The staff let it down. Service at breakfast was poor, it was tense, wrong orders Dinners were a little better. It certainly wasn't 5 star. Over priced too. Just back from Kilroan castle . Much better experience and half the price. Staff were excellent. Too.
We had a lovely stay at the Glenlo Abbey which presented a perfect combination of historic 17th century structure and modern, luxurious accommodations. Our room was extremely large and comfortable, with a very lovely bathroom - note furnishings are traditional, which is part of the charm. The staff was very friendly and helpful (with the slight exception at breakfast where they could have been a bit nicer). High tea, bars and breakfast were all super beautiful. The hotel is a short drive to downtown Galway and served as a good base to explore the area. We would love to stay here again.
We stayed 2 night on our trip around Ireland. Take the time to have dinner in the restaurant that is in two of the original Orient Express train carriages- the food and ambience are fantastic. If you are a golfer the Estate has it's own 18 hole course which is very popular.
All perfect. The treatment of the staff, the room, the location, the food (with many gluten-free options). Galway and its region are wonderful. Special thanks to Carmen who took wonderful care of us at breakfast. The only pity was having to leave.
Our suite was comfortable with a good view, good ventilation, dark, oddly furnished and the windows are dirty, the double glaze has been compromised and so there is a lot of internal condensation on the window making it hard to see the view you paid for. Food was awful.
It was extraordinarily overpriced. It could be something but currently it is not.
I don't believe that the venue is 5 stars, I was there with a friend for a spa treatment and afternoon tea.
Regarding the spa, we were told that "we didn't email what treatments we wanted hence nothing was booked" however, the booking was done over the phone and treatments were mentioned. At the same time, why didn't the venue contact the customer in advance to confirm treatments. First time I was getting bored during a massage. It was the same movement for about an hour. During the head massage she kept stopping with one hand and the other hand was doing something. This was done throughout the whole head massage, stop start, I'm assuming she was texting with the other hand, very unprofessional and I'd say the lowest quality spa session I've had.
I've received better post spa treatment relaxation room benefits in 4 star hotels.
The spa area is very small, there aren't hairdryers even though there are showers with shampoo etc, very peculiar.
Afternoon tea was amazing and the staff member waiting our table was the best and the food was also amazing. I would recommend.
Hotel was very nice. The grounds were great. The rooms were nice but our bathroom shower was pretty disgusting.
Good at the bar was not great nor was breakfast. Didn’t have the opportunity to do the train dinner.
If I had 2 weeks left to live, I would spend it at Glenlo Abbey. It is absolutely stunning with spacious and luxurious rooms, and the staff is incredible. I recommend this to anyone looking for a special place to stay and make memories to last a lifetime.
Absolutely beautiful hotel and location. We really enjoyed our stay.
Service during breakfast was incredibly slow. By the time we were brought tea, we had completed our food and then waited an additional 6 minutes. The bread was very dry. My mom pulled a 2ft brown hair off the breakfast buffet. Kinda gross.
food during dinner was good. Not the best food Ive had but still very tasty. Lovely presentation.
They had our room at the end of the hall and a staff area was next to it and an exit. We could hear the laundry all night. We could hear the exit door closing all night. The beds were very hard and neither of else slept either night. The staff room was so loud that I tried downloading a sound machine app to drown the noise.
There was also NO complimentary water. Which is advertised on their website. We were charged for water at every meal. And the water in the room had a sign that said it cost. This is the only hotel that we stayed at in Ireland that didnt provide free water.
What a gem! I’m always thinking of work but for the first time the views, amenities, and staff allowed me take my mind off everything and have a proper unwind! The food, rooms, drinks, and everything were perfect. Highly recommend Falconry (I know what you’re thinking, why would I do that on vacation but trust me it’s once in a lifetime and the best experience)
We visited Glenlo for a Princess afternoon tea. It was a birthday gift for my daughter's friends. The four 10 Yr olds were treated so kindly by everyone from concierge to the lovely waiter Matias. He introduced them to the tea collection and helped them to choose with great patience and respect. They loved the food and the tea. I highly recommend this lovely treat for small ladies.
Booked the grand suite over the Christmas period and cannot recommend this hotel any more highly. The staff are beyond welcoming and make you feel at home, the room was decorated perfectly for the Christmas period with an amazing view of the Pullman restaurant.
Outstanding hotel-staff were excellent and couldn’t do enough for us. Food in bar,on orient express and breakfast the following morning was top notch!
Grounds were beautiful and some lovely walks around golf course
Started with cocktails not on the menu.
Smoked salmon was likely wild caught, firm not too fishy nice level of smokey
Seafood chowder chunky with fish cooked just right and the cream was lean not too heavy, with nice seafood taste
Eye filet steak melt in the mouth and very generous serve.
Whole Sole served really warm, excelent seasoning and cooked to perfection.
Asked for side of greens not on the menu no proplem, served crisp and good size.
Rooms for improvement would be that the waiter serving the food just put it down without a word.

Come to the room just awesome.
And 9 course golf in the backyard, we skipping to planned tour tomorrow 😃
Room for improvement.
- breakfast buffet is very poorly organised
- information in the room is non-existent and impossible to find on the tv
If you have the opportunity to be nearby Glenlo Abbey and need a place to stay, a place to eat, a place to golf, or simply want to walk some beautiful grounds and interact with the most gracious staff, Glenlo is the place you need to be. My fiancé and I visited from the US and we feel so fortunate to have stayed at Glenlo but only wish our time could have been longer. The staff truly care about you and will do everything to ensure your stay is comfortable and flawless. If you find yourself in an unusual situation (which we did and it would be a full book to tell the story), Glenlo will ensure your stay isn’t interrupted and ensure you are taken care of in the most respectful and professional way imaginable. Mistakes and weird things happen in life. The important part is how these things are handled and Glenlo far exceeded our expectations. You will not be disappointed if you chose Glenlo for anything you go do there. We will certainly be back the next time we are in Ireland.
Glenlo Abbey is very lovely place with a gulf course as well as attentive and helpful staff. The 3 stars is for the lack of ability to control the temperature in the room and the level of noise we experienced being on the first floor next to the parking lot. It was very noisy late into the night with people leaving a wedding party and again early in the morning with tour buses loading and unloading luggage.
Fantastic experience. Absolutely loved our stay. Beautiful property with immaculate room. Lovely service at breakfast.
Highly recommend, guys!
10/10 location
10/10 service
10/10 prices
Our rooms were excellent! We were upgraded to a beautiful suite that overlooked the walled garden. Very nice!
Lovely hotel, beautiful room and superb breakfast. Staff generally excellent with one or two exceptions.
Lovey hotel especially for a Christmas wedding. Had a lovely stay.
Magnificent place but I do not recommend with children (8 and 6 years old) and expensive for the experience.
1/ the staff were attentive and very pleasant
2/ the place is beautiful, peaceful and the exterior is very well maintained
3/ the breakfast was good and plentiful. We waited quite a while before our order was taken because we felt there was a rush around 8:30 a.m.!
4/ the family room is very clean, spacious and comfortable with a very large and splendid bathroom (shower and bathtub)
On the other hand, we had the impression of being left out (perhaps because we had children). We had the last room, the furthest away, facing the laundry room and above all with a really disappointing view for this price…
5/ the abbey is beautiful and so is the train but the outbuildings added to the abbey are not in the architectural continuity of the abbey
In my opinion ideal for people who like golf, or if you are retired but I do not recommend with children (we asked if they had board games and we felt that the question was not suitable instead…), we didn't see any other children anyway.
In short, mixed experience between price/view/architecture because we wanted to treat ourselves to have a “castle” experience. However very well we ate and slept very well.
As part of our wedding, we booked 10 rooms for 23 people and stayed 2 nights. This establishment is timeless. The quality of the infrastructure, the character of the abbey and the kindness of the staff are exceptional. 3rd stay there and still impressed. Golf and falconry activities to do on site.|The meal in the Pullman is excellent.|We can't wait to go back.
The hotel is not worth its price or its reputation. |The staff is however very nice for the most part except for one woman at reception who should change jobs. |The rooms are small and the establishment needs a major renovation. |They put us in a room with a shower instead of a bathtub as the room plans indicate on the internet, with a 6 month old baby this is not practical.|The rooms are not very well insulated by compared to the corridor and upper floor.|The breakfast is mediocre, the choice is there but not the quality of the products.|To summarize, it is an establishment that needs a good facelift, a little more personalized and efficient management to adapt to customers.|Luckily some staff members make your stay pleasant.
Extraordinary establishment where we stayed 2 nights in addition to a reservation at the Pullman. A timeless experience on the doorstep of Connemara. The establishment also has another good bistronomic restaurant. Special mention for the extraordinary welcome from the concierges. And the breakfast room with an exceptional view of the park.
When we arrived and looked at the beautiful driveway with the adjoining golf course, we had the feeling that we were in a great house.|We were only there for one night, but that was enough. |The check-in was carried out at a very quick pace and we had to really follow the lady on the way to the room. We found that almost outrageous. She could just as easily have handed us the key and sent us off on our own. |The room was fine. The bathroom door was so heavy that it always slammed shut. The ventilation was so bad that we had to put something between the door to at least get the moisture into the room.|The beds were very comfortable and we slept great.|It is uncomfortable and cold in the bar (basement). That's why we moved to the fireplace room with our drinks.|It was warm there, but like everywhere else it lacked flair and warmth.|In the evening we had dinner in the Pullman Restaurant, which was a great experience, but we'll rate it separately. |The breakfast was so-so, like everything else. We can't really complain, but we're not thrilled either.
A 5 star without any ifs or buts. Attention to detail, cleanliness, service, kindness, competence, hospitality... I don't know what else to add! Thank you for your wonderful nights! |The breakfast was also very special. |The only slightly negative side is that the bathroom is a bit small. But very clean and luxurious!
The hotel is located in an enormously large property, everything is well preserved and clean, the service and all the staff are very, very friendly. Hotel facilities, no swimming pool or spa, in the bathroom you have to shower in the bathtub and only have a hairdryer from the 80s, it just doesn't meet current standards. The whole hotel doesn't smell particularly fresh but is filled with all sorts of kitchen smells, which bothered me a little. You can eat original food on the Orient Express.
Great 5-star hotel just outside Galway in a former monastery. Beautiful rooms and excellent breakfast with Eggs Benedict. In the afternoon English afternoon tea with scones and clotted cream, in the evening a stylish dinner in the original Orient Express railway carriage and then piano music by the open fireplace with an Irish malt whiskey. There is a golf course right next to it and plenty of free parking spaces.
