Reviews of White Sands Hotel Portmarnock
My wife and I had a lovely pleasant evening here. We enjoyed our few drinks. We didn't have anything to eat but what we seen being served looked very appealing.Very comfortable. Staff were very nice. Will go back again.
Recently stayed with my son we have previously stayed here on many occasions due to the location and have never been disappointed. Staff are great especially the warm welcome you receive from Ann and Mary at reception. Food is also good.
Lovely hotel. Warm and welcoming. Great sea views, genuinely friendly and helpful staff. Nice bar food and tasty breakfast.
Best club sambo & chips I've had in Dublin for ages. Great value too! Service was superb, really friendly staff. Fireman Sands, ice-cream, coffee & chocolate fudge brownies are also amazing!!!
Lovely hotel. Great value and brilliant breakfast. If you want to see the sunrise get a room at the front of the hotel. Would definitely come again, just so i can walk on wonderful Portmarnock beach again
Good spot. Nice cosy bar. Lovely veranda with sea view in summer 😊
Stayed for 2 nights last week can't recommend white sands hotel high enough fantastic service all round and thank you for the complimentary drinks and breakfast will definitely be back soon
Great service. Staff very helpful. 1 recomendation: There should be door signs stating whether room is ready to be cleaned or do not disturb.
Nice hotel a bit dated but comfortable. Waited nearly zn hour for breakfast but staff friendly.
Great music night on Sunday nights. Good food and drink. Hotel could do with a revamp looks old and tired. Nice staff that are willing to help the guests. Loads of parking spaces. Never gets too packed so always comfortable for the customer. Short walk to the beach.
While I was visting my Mother for 2 weeks during the summer I and my family had a good few evenings in the Oasis Bar. The food was great and very good value for money. The staff as always were outstanding and very friendly. See you all again in a few weeks time.
I am a regular patron of this hotel and I have yet to be disappointed. Very friendly staff, always willing to help and seek solutions, quickly! And , it is situated just a few minutes walk away from from a very attractive beachfront. A lovely spot.
I got engaged in this hotel. Its so nice and loved our room and the jacuzzi bath was so lovely. A great price too and the food was lovely. Have been a few times. Lovely location.
Best panoramic views while you enjoy your favourite tipple with delicious food
Staff were brilliant and location was good, room was comfortable with everything we needed, very clean and good breakfast and resturant served good food. No additional facilities - need a car or use bus for attractions.
Busses into Dublin worked out more expensive than hiring a car, not an awful lot to do in the area apart from the beach.
Very noisy. Room was next to open area of hotel and could hear everything, music, shouting, kids playing, also could hear people talking in the corridor so couldn't sleep properly
I can't recommend and praise this hotel enough . we stay here regularly and it only gets better and better . The staff are exceptionally professional and friendly I all areas of the hotel .. Food is yummy and a great selection on the menu .. Can't wait until our next visit ..
Perfect location, wonderful service. I was here with my boyfriend. Incredible wievs, beautiful place to spend weekend away from home. Restaurant with nice food, bar with live music. Nice audience and nice public around. Recommended..
This is my third time staying in this wonderful place. The staff are so nice. And the food is great. Plus the views are wonderful of the sun over the sea
Very nice hotel..our third time to stay here..location beautiful..beds comfortable..food really nice...only downside was the sensor light outside the bathroom automatically came on when one of us got up at night lighting up the whole room but apart from that we have no complaints and will be staying here again
Three star hotel? I'd give them five! Mary on reception is just fab. Rooms are great and you can step right onto the beach in seconds. Best hotel in Dublin!
Good location, but run down and old looking hotel. Dirty bed clothes too and stained carpets
Awesome staff, special thanks to Tom on his great advice for day trips Dublin. Being able to squeeze us in for another night also was magic.
Very friendly staff and good food. Very clean and spacious also.
Friendly and efficient staff. Good lunch and dinner menu. Good local trade. Great location and parking. And the view😎
very good hotel we have stayed here many times everything is well organised all the staff are very efficient and friendly in particular the bar and restaurant staff
Service very good , but food average....views amazing though......
Far too expensive for what you get. It's a tired and somewhat dated place. But was very clean and location is excellent.
Stunning views of the Irish sea, Ireland's eye and Lambay Island look stunning in the sun, The hotel staff were very professional, plenty of amenities close by with portmarnck beach across the road if you fancy a stroll, lovely place to stay for the weekend
Great for an overnight stay, the rooms are roasting though with no clear way of turning down the heat
Great food from "Firesands". Lovely girl working in it
Only stayed a few hours, but the room was nice and clean and spacious

Fantastic place
Quaint little place
Attentive staff and a bit of chat and a lovely bowl of chowder sat evening well worth a go
Very friendly place, the pub restaurant next to the hotel is very warm, the food is good. The hotel itself is clean, the welcome is very friendly, bus station a few meters away serving Dublin (40 minutes) and other cities. 50 meters from the beach, ditto walking circuit. We will definitely come back.
The best thing: it is on the coast, you just have to cross the road and you are at the sea. Very nice views of the beach especially at low tide, the Martello tower and the Howth peninsula but not all rooms have sea views. Close to the airport, 15 minutes, as well as Howth (beautiful harbour, seafood restaurants, seals at the mouth of the harbour) and Dublin. Free parking. Normal prices at the bar.
The worst: The rooms are dirty (spiders on the ceiling, VERY dirty carpet with stains everywhere, dust on the crossbars of the ONLY chair they put in a room for two people), VERY old furniture. The blanket they have as reinforcement could pass for the ones we had in Spain in the 70s. Old, not very pleasant to the touch and dirty looking. The attention from the reception was very friendly for some people but two or three others were not, you greeted them and they neither looked at you nor responded. The hotel needs a complete renovation. It doesn't deserve to have three stars. The room CANNOT BE VENTILATED (it constantly smelled closed and of people), since the only window there has a small door at the top that can only be opened if you stand on a chair and are at least six feet tall, because when you open it (it opens outwards) the handle is on the outside and it is very difficult to close it again when it is cold or windy. We opened it once and it was so difficult to close it that we didn't try again. This does not happen in the rooms that have sea views, which apparently all have the opening at the bottom. They never turn on the heating. Rust on the towel rail that was supposed to be on (central heating) to heat the towels. Breakfast quality is mediocre in the products used and little variety of pastries (only croissants). The kitchen closes at 09:00PM (21:00), being one of the earliest places to close that we have seen on our entire trip through Ireland.
(Translated) The location between Howth and Malahide on the beach is great. Bus 102 from the airport to get there. Bus 32 and 42 goes to Dublin Talbot Street. The rooms have soft beds, 3 cm thick carpet, kettle, TV and hair dryer. The very narrow bathroom has no mixer tap on the sink and the shower no hand shower. The entrance door to the hotel lacks handles and the entrance steps are already bursting. A room with sea view through dirty windows has unfortunately the noise from the coastal road. Old and in need of renovation. It lacks of cleanliness, but otherwise okay.

Super nice view of the sea!! City bus a stone's throw away so very practical, especially for going to Dublin, Malahide... Bar with mini private concerts on weekend evenings and restaurant on site, nightclub too, not noisy once in the room! The boss and his employees are very nice as well as the music groups which are just incredible to listen to!!! And very available, you can chat with them while drinking a good beer! We will go back there for sure!!!
(Translated) Excellent location right in front of a wonderful beach. If you come to Dublin and have a car, it is an excellent option to stay without paying the prices of the capital (2 nights in a double room (without breakfast) for less than € 127).

(Translated) Hotel in an excellent seafront location. Convenient to visit Dublin too. Clean, large rooms, but the structure needs a renovation since dated

Hotel in ottima posizione fronte mare. Comodo per visitare anche Dublino. Pulito, camere ampie, ma la struttura necessità di una ristrutturazione poiché datata
(Translated) Bath towels with holes. Very stained curtains. A bit expensive ☹. Other than the view out of the hotel. Nothing is worth that price.

Great service from the staff. Rooms were clean, adequate and nicely kept. The rooms are recently decorated but dated, the shower is barely big enough as a 600mm x 600mm cubicle, which is challenging for us larger chaps, but nevertheless functional. Rooms have tea and coffee facilities, with disposable paper cups, I personally would prefer a china cup, but the paper cup was ok.
The big plus for this hotel is the location. It’s about 3 miles from Malahide, which is a bustling seaside town, but White Sands being in Portmarnock has a more rural aspect and stunning views to the sea, waking up to the waves breaking on the beach 30 metres away was a real treat.
We had to get up early for the ferry and enjoyed a gloriously beautiful sunrise. Portmarnock is also well placed for Dublin’s East Wall Ferry Terminal, our drive to the terminal at 06.30 on a Sunday morning was about 30mins.
Stayed here for a little get away. 1 night.
The room I was in the bed wasn’t the best. I told the staff and was offered a different room they were very accommodating.
Hotel could use a little updating but the rooms where clean and the staff and views were amazing. Breakfast also was the nicest I’ve had in a hotel so far.
Will definitely be back. Thank you.
Dirty rooms, bad planing of them. The shower has no doors so it gets messy with the shower curtain.
Great value!we recently stayed and had a great experience. Staff were very good especially Lorraine in reception. The room was good, clean with a comfy bed and good shower. The hotel is in need of a facelift but that wouldn't bother me. We got a great deal for 2 nights. I think people are paying ridiculous prices through third party sites so they should book directly on the hotels site. Great location and only a short journey to Malahide,Howth or Dublin city centre. We will definitely be back .
We attended on Tuesday 27th Dec. The waitress was FANTASTIC but when I asked for her name she said "Trouble" 😂😂. She was studying in UCD P/time. She was attentive, friendly and probably the best service ever without going over the top. Great food and value too
Nice location nice access and parking at the front ,restaurant with nice food and a place to watch sports !
The staff were very friendly and the location was peaceful, even if it was far away from the city centre, but the room was really gross and the TV didn't work, nor did a lot of the lights. The carpet was ancient and stained and moldy, and had chewed gum on it, as well as bits of food? And there was a little balcony but there was only one chair for a two-person room and it was really dirty. Fine for a bed to sleep in but the price was ridiculous for what it was, even with the very kind and helpful staff.
Location cannot be beaten.
Management need to go back to school and out if their offices
Recently spent a week here with my daughters and father. The hotel was lovely as were all the staff. Our rooms were extremely clean and we were well looked after. Unfortunately my father was ill whilst we were there and the the staff could not do enough for us. On top of this the location is great.
I would highly recommend and would definitely visit again.
Lovely outside with fabulous views. Inside, sadly have no sea views. Very dark and a little faded. Food is OK. Seems to depend on what day you go. One day fish and chips are gorgeous, fresh white fish in light batter, next day, well, thick batter and small fish 🐟 not so fresh looking.
This is the perfect hotel for a weekend getaway in Dublin. Overlooking the beautiful velvet strand beach with a bounty of shops and restaurants in the area. Every staff member was friendly and attentive and the musicians who played in the bar on Sunday are legends. The hotel offers everything you need if you don’t feel like venturing out from a la carte dining to their food truck with more casual options and ice cream! What a gem. Thanks guys.
Across the street from a nice beach and walking/running path. But be prepared for wind in the afternoon and evening.
Pillows were awkward. One was too thin but two was too thick.
Mattress was firmer and springs easier to feel than at home, but I think that's a cultural difference between Ireland and the States.
Breakfast was €15.50 which was more than we wanted to pay so we went to the Spar next door.
Went to the carvery on Mother's day. I was very disappointed as the food was lukewarm and a very small portion. Staff were very friendly. Car parking and wheelchair accessible. Beautiful views of the sea.
Small things, nothing major but 5 star view!! In a Resort town. Large room, comfortable beds, great shower temperature and pressure.
Well it's a pleasure to finally find a place that ticks all the boxes right on our doorstep so to speak.we got married in this hotel 40years ago and we decided to renew our wedding vows. We spoke to Sean the events manager that took the time to keep in touch by phone and email and met our needs .we did add our own touch to the venue but the receptionists the bar staff, servers, the housekeeping all play a part not only for me but our family and friends. The service was prompt ,friendly they went out of their way to help ,our night was very special for us and our guest again the sands in portmaknock didn't disappoint we ordered. Platters and sambo and we were worried the platters would be sparse but no huge big platters and sambo were not squashed up like other places they were wholesome thick bread I ask each table did they want more but everyone was well fed and that was tables of 10 people. The night was fab with a fabulous DJ Graham play all Motown oldies and had our guests dancing into the early hours and I have to mention Austin who was like our personal assistant for the night making sure everything was on form, the tea /coffee on hand for guests who were driving or didn't drink, the breakfast was plentiful and fresh, the dinner was beautiful,THANK YOU on behalf of my family for a wonderful experience from start to finish .
An excellent short stay to visit family. Comfortable room, good food. Bathroom a bit tired but fine.
Stayed here our first night on vacation back in 2019 and it was awesome. Great food and great people plus great late night entertainment. It was quite a lovely first experience our first trip out!
Didn't stay in the hotel, just had pints in the bar, decent bar, great guinness
I just want to take the time to thank yous all for the most wonderful 2 nights me and my partner had friday and saturday the woman on reception wore nicest people we have ever came across from min we came in tell every time we passed by . Out of every hotels we had stayed in doesn't come near how well we wore treated and it was we will be back very soon
Called in during a stormy evening for shelter and a cup of tea. Very nice place. Staff helpful.
The location was perfect, although my room didn't have a sea view but I loved the hotel.
Lovely staff , and the food was amazing
The steak was cooked to perfection and the pepper sauce was really tasty
Great experience will definitely come back , special thanks to Rob the barman , great service
Great location and service, but probably best enjoyed during a high season and not a short weekend stay in cold, dull weather. Undergoing the refurbishment (March 2023).
Spent 3 days at this hotel the room we had was lovely clean and tidy everything you needed to explore Ireland. Would definitely come back !!!
Amazing location, food and staff
For couple of days stay it was more than good. Working space was nice, food was good.
Nice food
Nice hotel on the coast road in Portmarnock, a bit dated but great location and top bar staff
The view is great but the food is just okay
Great Breakfast👍
Worst experience from one Receptionist 👎 No manners at all..
My husband's favourite place for a pint of Guinness! Lovely roast dinner
Lovely meal served to us no complaints at all efficient and friendly staff
Delicious lunch, very courteous and helpful staff.
Great spot right beside the beach
Excellent hotel, exceptional atmosphere, very good owners, great memories. Greetings from Felice Sicilia
In October 2018 I booked this hotel for 2 nights. The location on the coast (only separated by a coastal road) persuaded me to book.|The hotel has free parking. Check-in was pretty straightforward. The room was clean and had obviously just been renovated. It smelled very much like paint. Sleeping comfort was okay. The bathroom had certainly seen better days and was not cleaned during the stay. A sheet of toilet paper was already on the bathroom floor upon arrival and was still there at the time of departure.|There is a breakfast room. The buffet offers something for everyone. The staff is a bit taciturn in the morning and the set tables were sometimes not sufficiently equipped with cutlery. This could be remedied.|Highly recommended for one or two nights.
We booked this hotel by chance. Served very well by buses. The hotel is renovated, welcoming and clean. In front of the hotel there is a long beach where you can take long walks even in this period with the local people. Next to the hotel there is a restaurant/pub that I highly recommend. I recommend a stay here to everyone; young people and families.
The first picture of the golf club-like building does not correspond to the exterior of the hotel. ||4 nice overnight stays near the beach to get to know Ireland for the first time were planned.||Intensive internet research was carried out in advance. The images and reviews of the White Sands Hotel were examined on various platforms, including the images on the hotel's homepage. Unfortunately, among other things, fake or incorrect images were posted. The booked 3-bed room 214, front building, 1st FLOOR, land side, doesn't really have anything in common with the 3-bed room offered, pictured, which is advertised by the hotel below... except for 3 beds. ||The carpet and a stool were dingy and had various signs of wear and tear. The curtain was gray, had holes in it and was torn in various places.||One of two bedside lamps was broken. According to a conservative estimate, the inventory probably dates from the 1980s and would definitely need to be replaced. The closet doors were stuck.||The bathroom had a tub with a shower curtain. The shower curtain rail was rusty. The bathtub lock chain was rusty and produced rusty stains on the edge of the bathtub that were not removed during the entire stay.||The toilet only flushed after repeated use, but with very little flushing water.||The sink had no mixer tap but two separate taps , one with refreshing, very cold water and one with very hot water. ||The location on the beach was OK.||The room service tried to do a good job.||The overall condition prevented us from trying the optional breakfast.||Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio is not right in this hotel more.||The only comfort was the proximity to the beach with the beautiful shell population and the proximity to the very beautiful neighboring town of Malahide, where the castle, the park and the promenade are well worth seeing.||There are also very nice and recommended places for breakfast there or LUNCH OR DINNER.
