The tour was a lovely experience with brief overviews of mead in Irish history, mead fermentation, bottling, honey and mead tasting. The owners are knowledgeable, wonderfully inviting, and open about their learnings establishing the only mead company in Ireland. A mead for every occasion!

We had an excellent time learning about mead, tasting the honey and sampling the mead they have on offer. A prior booking was needed and easily made online. They are only currently operational meadery in Ireland. This was a great way to spend a rainy afternoon in Kinsale. Go if you have the chance!

Loved the tour! Super warm welcome by the owners, tons of interesting information plus actual mead tasting is a huge bonus 😆 highly recommended if you are near Kinsale or passing by!

We had nothing much to do as we had missed a few timings for other tours and decided to head back to our hotel. We came across this tour and decided to just walk in and see if they were willing to accept last minute bookings for the tour. I am grateful and thankful that they accommodated us, it was an insightful tour and their mead was awesome, so much depth, flavour and guilt free drink (since it is made outta honey) kate even gave us a lift to the next bus stop so we wouldn't miss the last bus out of kinsale. This is how gracious, considerate and lovely a person she is. She made our trip wonderful. Wishing they would sell their mead to Singapore soon. I really miss it loads.

Had a great tour of the facility while in Kinsale for a week. From the history and production of Mead through to the tasting, it was excellent. 2 bottles ordered online instead of buying from the shop almost arrived at the house before I got home so great service too!

A lovely experience by this family owned Meade Factory. The lady that gave the tour had loads of knowledge on the history of Meade down the ages. We got to taste the honey that they use to make the Meade and we also got to taste 4 different flavour of Meade.
They where very conscious of the covid distancing and didn't feel uncomfortable at any point. Highly recommend.

Absolutely love this place. It is family run and making a unique product. I had heard of mead before going to Kinsale, but I never tried it or knew where to buy it, but thanks to Kinsale Mead not only do i know how it is made but also the history of it as well. It a fantastic drink to have, with a versatile taste that can made into a mixture of cocktails.
The tour is an must if you are in Kinsale or passing through, you not only learn the history of Mead but also some of Irish history. After leaving the tour and tasting mead Im happy to say that Kinsale Mead is one of my goto drinks to enjoy.

Absolutely loved it was so interesting our tour guide was fantastic so knowledgeable and so friendly. Me and my friends enjoyed every minute of it and couldn't resist picking up a few bottles to take home with us 10/10. Thank you so much

Did the mead tour whilst in Kinsale. Was a nice way to spend the afternoon. Setup was cool and the we got to see the honey used through to the tanks used to make it and age it. Tasted and bought some mead then.

Absolutely OUTSTANDING PLACE. I am obsessed with mead and this place went above and beyond in expectations. Would give it more stars if I could. The mead is incredible, if you have never tried it I highly suggest giving it a go. It’s a bit tricky to find so listen to their advice on the website because maps will lead you around the building. The owners are incredibly friendly and it feels like you’re visiting a friends store. This place is a must do in Kinsale. Even if you can’t do a tour stop in for a tasting (but do the tour if you get the chance ) . Can’t wait to return to try their newest batch.

This is the best meadery in Ireland. Ok, at the time it was the only meadery in Ireland but if it weren't, it would still be the best. The owners were delightful and gave us the VIP treatment and tour. The mead is outstanding! Parking is easy and prices are very fair. I will be back!!!!

Amazing place.
Brilliant and in-depth tour.
Most important, delicious mead!
Thank you Denis. Hope to see you back on the food festival circuit next year.

I done the distillery tour back in September, never heard of Mead until my partner mentioned it. So we booked onto the tour, learned how it was made, some very interesting facts and Irish history.
I had got some in the local off licences until Christmas and then I couldn't get it, clearly popular. Finally today, I got a bottle as a gift! 100% recommend the tour and the Mead to drink!

Having never had mead before I have been converted, Dennis gave a great explanation of how mead is made as well as a great tasting selection. If you're in the area it's worth a visit

So far Ive only tried hazy summer Mead but it's great. So fruity. Im not a wine fan so decided to try this instead.
Lovely mixed with something sparkling. I had West coast cooler. Mixed together was a great refreshing drink with a barbecue :)

This was a gem of a tour. It was so informative, it was fascinating to learn about this drink that has been intertwined in so much folklore and Irish history for thousands of years. Denis had so much knowledge to share about bees, honey, sustainability and of course, how to make mead. The mead tasting at the end of the tour was also excellently set up for these strange times of covid-19 and the mead itself was absolutely delicious. Would highly recommend this tour if you're in Kinsale for a weekend and wish Kate and Denis all the best of luck in the future🍷

The Meadery Tour was one of the highlights of our Cork holiday. Kate's amazing storytelling, and the tour of mead from honey to alcohol was funny, fascinating and delicious. We were also delighted to find out our local stocks Kinsale Mead Co., as we're now big fans 😊
K. M.
Kate was awesome in helping us to coordinate our tour that worked at a time for us, and was very accommodating as our group was originally 12 people, and changed at the last minute to only 7. We thoroughly enjoyed hearing the stories, folklore, history, and culture of Mead and how it's changed over time. Our group enjoyed tasting the honey they had available that day and we were surprised how different honey tasted (granted all 3 were great!). The tour of the 'meadery' was short but sweet, was very cool to hear about what each logo included as it includes landmarks of Kinsale, and then the tasting blew us away! We all had assumed certain tastes would come with each flavor, and boy were we wrong. We all loved the types of mead we tasted and ultimately bought bottles to bring home! Would love to return to buy a bottle of the Wild Berry to mull when it's cold out. Thanks for a great time!

What an educational experience! I highly recommend the tour where you will learn about the history of mead, taste honey, tour the production facility, and taste four different types of mead! It was absolutely delicious and Kate (the owner) was very accommodating, knowledgeable, and hospitable! This was hands down the best alcohol tour I’ve ever taken.
I agree with the other reviewers that the location is difficult to find, but go behind the Lidl to the other industrial-looking buildings.
J. M.
Owners are fantastic, funny, and so welcoming. Great stories and histories to share. The mead itself is fantastic. We grabbed a bottle to enjoy on the rest of our trip and will be stocking up when we get home. A necessary stop for anyone passing near Kinsale.

This was such a great experience! Really interesting tour, loads of great stories of the history of mead. And the tasting afterwards was fab! We were a small hen party and everyone loves the tour! 12/10 would recommend

Wonderful little place. Bringing back a drink with a rich Irish history. Kate was a wonderful guide and went out of her way to take us on and teach us about the process and history of Mead. Definitely worth a stop and a taste.
Once you do, you won't leave empty handed, you'll definitely take some home for later.

Had a awesome experience with my family, the staff is really knowledgable and even if you don't have time for the tour stop in for a tasting. They have a great variety to taste and purchase. We are traveling from the USA and purchased several sample bottles that we could take back with us.

So much fun. It was great learning about the history and importance of mead in Irish culture. Denis was a great guide and let us sample their whole range of products! Definitely recommend if you're looking for something a little different to do in Kinsale.

My wife and I ended up here on our day in Kinsale as we looked to find some relatively Irish things that were off the beaten path--we were so pleased that we came. We were able to get a tour and tasting from Denis and expectations for both were greatly exceeded. Despite experience with plenty of wine tastings and even making our own beer, I found myself learning some interesting things about the very meticulous approach and ingredients that Denis is putting into making the meads here. The explanation of the ties with Irish history and heritage adds the context that helps one appreciate how Dennis is making an product that is a renewal of an Irish heritage.
So here's the important part--the meads themselves--they are outstanding. I've had a few meads presented by accomplished winemakers, but I've never found them particularly compelling--usually too sweet and with some "interesting" flavors. The meads at Kinsale Mead Co. are distinctly elegant and nuanced.
The only downsides--the place is a little tricky to find, especially with google. You have to go to the building that sits behind the Lidl and it is on the far right--its appearance matches that this is a production centered operation. But the search is well worth it and don't let the exterior throw you off--there is quite a good presentation and tasting to be had within. It is walkable from downtown Kinsale, but some would consider it a hike. Lastly, this is not like some places where the experience is free. But the time, effort, and euro spent are well worth it in my opinion. Take a break from the pubs and try something else that has good Irish roots.
Denis's (and company) hospitality were also a great taste of Ireland that I very much appreciated. I look forward to returning!
