My 11 and 9 year old loved the folk museum. I found it fascinating and the surroundings simply stunning and unspoilt.
The little trail was fun with some interesting features like a replica of a sweat house and cafe's food was nice, fresh and tasty. We want to visit agaín already!

Very well laid out , all the cottages and old artifacts in them , some of them I remember my nan having in her thatched cottage, the beach across the road has some great waves rolling in too .

Great piece of history, a must do whilst on the Wild Atlantic Way. Also grab a bite to eat.For those who wish to Wild camp there's a carpark opposite looking over a beautiful bay and beach.

So informative. Enjoyed getting a view of what a cottage might be like through a couple of centuries.

I absolutely love this museum. It is good place to stop when you want to experience old Irish village from 18th until 20th century. There is also a nice tea house that serves soup with homemade soda bread.

Lovely shop and wonderful lady inside.
Well worth a visit as the sell locally made crafts from postcards to hand knitted sweaters and everything in between.
Scenery outside opposite is spectacular.
Bit of a drive to actually get there. Long old road there but well worth the trip.

A very interesting step back in history to see the way our ancestors lived in another very scenic area of Donegal.
S. A.
Nice, small Museum village with about 5 farmhouses all from different times so you can see the evolution in their built and the stuff people owned and worked with. Also a school, grocery annex pub and a fisherman house. All in all very nice. Further a very good teashop and a nice souvenir and craft shop. The Folk Village is definitely worth a visit.
R. C.
Great stop along the Atlantic Way. Really authentic cottages celebrating our past. First class tea rooms to round off the visit. Recommended.

Amazing trip back in time. Beautifully preserved and maintained thatch cottages full of traditional artefacts, household, fishing and farming tools. there's an old schoolhouse wonderfully preserved and even evidence of a 'hedge school' from yesteryear! Thoroughly enjoyable and a must see on the Donegal leg of the Wild Atlantic Way and only a short drive from the stunning Sliabh Liag sea cliffs.
D. O.
A great folk village to visit. Price is 6.50 per head. It's a tour of authentic famine cottages through a time period of 2 centuries. Beginning with a school house, it shows how people lived through different generations.
It's an interesting experience and as an Irishman, I'm delighted to see my history being preserved.
The area is beautiful and across the road is Glen bay, a lovely beach.😊
c. v.
What a gorgeous wee town. Scenery is superb.
T. R.
Nice place to look into the old ages. But what's really good is the surrounding area: bay, beach, Mountains and the valley. Enjoy the view, definitely go there!
S. M.

Great place to get a look back at how people lived and survived in rural Ireland many moons ago- plenty of history to soak in and then enjoy a pot of tea and traditional wheaten bread in the coffee shop afterwards
B. D.
Wonderful to see this project developed in the 70s still looking pristine. Excellent examples of vernacular architecture. Very nice cafe and of course super views of the Donegal coast where ever you look. BAIN SULT AS!!

Tucked away at the western edge of the vast county that is Donegal, Glencolmcille is a place we hadn't visited to date. We were delighted to find the Folk village where we enjoyed a lovely lunch and good coffee outdoors before walking into and around the houses of the village. We had read the guide book whilst we ate and enjoyed finding the different artifacts in each house : all close to hand and laid out as though the owners had just stepped out the door.
The gift shop had beautiful locally made crafts that were hard to resist and it was a joy to speak a little Irish there with the lady behind the counter.
A lovely, lovely afternoon.
A. M.
Great experience though sad at same time. The cottages are lovely and imagination takes a person into the past. Not expensive and worth the visit.
N. M.
Kids loved it! Apart from the gift shop the food on offer and the beach across the street are amazing! Definitely worth the drive!

Superb picture of C18-19th life on the raw edge of Europe, immaculately recreated by a group of young architects who came to understand and respect the resourceful building techniques of centuries past.

J. W. (. B.
Very interesting seeing the thatched cottage and buildings, their presentation and antique collections. Lovely guided tours with stories, and a demonstration of passion for its upkeep. Comfortable, spacious, homely style cafe too.
W. S. M.
The views coming to the village are splendid !
The beach/stand nearby is very nice and spacious.
The centre itself is very cute and perfect for pictures lovers because of the rustic/traditional look !
We went for lunch break in the cafe behind, absolutely recommend it ! Great portions and very friendly staff. Very easy going, good value.
J. M.
Wonderful retrospective of times past from famine through the 1920 s 40s to 70 . A must for all interested in this or have family who left or had no choice but to leave ireland. Recommended and it's only a few euros I think 5 to get in. Enjoy

Amazing folk museum. Lots of artefacts - most of which were sourced locally.
P. M.
Very steep drive. Scenery amazing. On arrival to Folk Village you can see a wonderful beach. Staff in Folk village very friendly they allowed us to bring our two dogs round the cottages. It was very interesting and it kind of gives you a feel on how people lived in these hard times. Brilliant wee Easter trip 2016 will definitely be back.
N. B.

Good experience, gluten free soup in cafe and great for breaking up your Wild Atlantic Way adventure. Lacks new attractions for repeat visitors but beautiful beach over the road. Don't miss it on your journey.

It's a great place to have lunch or coffee, the people who work there are lovely and always helpful. It's very relaxing place to go with family and friends or even one your own. It's my favorite place to go for coffee. I just love it there😊
M. M. G.
In its 50th year this place is a wee historical gem. Tea rooms serving traditional bakes and refreshments with a craft shop. Can cater for large tour groups. Accross the road from the local beach with stunning views, kids love this place. Tourist information point.
D. M.
Nice folk museum, although not properly catalogued and items were of mixture of periods and styles, still good for a local community place. The area is stunning.
S. W.
Not expensive and really lovely folk village.
Everything is well built and every part of the minitown is well explained.
Sadly, the tearoom did not meet our expectations.
But the folk village itself is worth the visit.
M. O.
The Folk Village will give you an authentic flavour of what village life was like until relatively recently - around the 1970's. Margaret and her staff are so committed and passionate about their area, the people and their stories. Glencolumbkille is a must if you are visiting Donegal.
I. O.
A touch of history. Houses are the real stuff, and history gets really close.
C. O.
A little bit out from town but worth it
C. G.
I last visited the village in 1984 and thought it was wonderful, just how I imagined people lived back then it was gloomy, sparsely furnished and just as my father described his parents cottage.
There has certainly been a lot of hard work gone into the village, but I now think it looks like someone's interpretation of what tourists would like to see, ie an idyllic village which is a far cry from the reality of that time in Donegal.
D. H.
A really lovely destination for the family to ecperit life in the past.
K. K.
Great place , preserved it's heritage. It's like a museum where you see and learn about lot things of olden time. The cafe here has delicious food.
B. M.
A very interesting place to visit to get a insight for how people lived in the past. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable in answering questions. Folk Village is not far from Slieve League and the Silver Strand at Malinbeg which are also well worth a visit to make for a very enjoyable day trip.
D. R.
What a gem, small but perfectly formed. So lovely, so much information and so much detail and so well laid out and tells a great story. And what a setting, lovely beautiful cove and area. If you are in the vicinity at all its worth the trip. I'd even say worth the drive up from Sligo, hit Slieve League before or after and you will have a magical day.
D. F.
This historical village is similar to Sturbridge Village in MA or to Genesee Country Village in NY in that a collection of homes represent Irish life in various times. I thought the hunger pot was the most interesting. I also enjoyed the demonstration from the willow weaver. I bought a rattle for my youngest grandson.
M. L.
Felt more like theme park than a museum, but it wasn't 'false' if that makes sense. There were lots of things on sale which you didn't need, but would be a good place to buy unique tourist gifts. If you are buying Aran items I would go to the shop at the top of the hill and buy from local artisans rather than stuff shipped in from Dublin. Both cheaper and more supportive of local talent.
If you are visiting the museum and get peckish go for the veggie soup. Cheap, wholesome, filling (especially if you eat the fresh baked soda bread) and I could eat it every day. To be honest, I did when I was visiting.
P. W.
Well worth the visit and the drive as it is in very remote but very beautiful part of Donegal and not far from Slieve league cliffs which are also a must visit, some of the buildings are very old as are most of the artifacts inside them, the food in the café is very good.
P. C.
Museum with a collection of family homes of the area in the designs from 1700, 1800, 1900s plus schoolroom, shop and bar. All artefacts in the museum were donated by those in the locality with the active encouragement of the parish priest Fr O'Dwyer in the 1960s.
A fascinating visit for anyone with Irish family connections.
With friendly staff and large tea room.
Only let down by lack of guides during the quiet season.
B. O.
Its nice place too see .friendly staff .theres nice views and small beach close by . Worth a visit

K. M.
Really nice example what life would be like over the generations. I strongly urge anyone in the area to spend a few hours exploring here. Staff were amazing taking the time to answer all questions
F. L.
It was a lovely place to visit and to discover life in rural Ireland and to see what life was like from a societal, religious and educational aspect.the shop and pub and the school captured the difference between the past and present and the similarities to modern day that you feel that you can identify with the protagonists and participants in ordinary life in the rural landscape.
J. T.
we only stopped to eat, but it seemed very clean, organized and welcome.
M. M.
Family lived the houses telling the local story. Well worth a visit. Not too dear. Small and easy to get to.
B. N.

U. 1.
I call in here whenever I'm down the road learning Irish in Oideas Gael. The Folk Village is well worth a visit, and you can get yourself a nice bowl of soup to help you cope with the unique challenges of Ireland's summertime weather. 😀
g. m.
Interesting story authentically portrayed in a remote setting. Stunning bay in to explore.
The hot sunny weather we experienced making it perfect.
r. s.
A collection of local houses (including equipment), like they used to be between 1700 and 1900. Even if the houses itself are not originals, the original equipment makes visible, how people lived and what their work was. Interesting..
R. W.
Brilliant place in a fantastic coastal location. A must do to see how people lived through the last few centuries.

It's an ok place. It definitely lacks a tour guide. You just wander around and watch stuff from 18th-20th centrury. I'd rather go to Famine Village, which is 1h drive north of Glencolumbkille.

(Translated) It is not big, but it can be seen that the construction of the exhibits demanded a lot of work, time and love.
In this village, one gets a good look into the former village life in the old Irland.Für handicapped and wheelchair users this place is absolutely NOT suitable.

In diesem Dorf, erhält man einen guten Einblick in das frühere dörfliche Leben im alten Irland.Für gebehinderte und Rollstuhlfahrer ist dieser Ort absolut NICHT geeignet.

(Translated) Village reconstituted by a priest at the end of the 20th century, it retraces the life of the inhabitants of this time and earlier times. The museum is presented by themes under thatched pavilions. Interesting for the curious in history. At the exit, passage, obligatory of course, at the souvenir shop 🤔

(Translated) Illustrates very well the hard and arduous life of the Irish not even 100 years ago. (The buildings were collected from the village and rebuilt as a museum, and I could only discover one of these species in the village.) Of course, some of the buildings are older too.
I believe that from the 1800's on, it was the oldest.
(Original)

(Translated) Even if the Folk Village is a bit outside the usual routes, it is absolutely worth a visit if you want to better understand the history of Ireland and its people. The landscape around the village is simply awesome and when the weather is good one of the highlights of a trip across the Green Island can be experienced here. Drive there!
