This place is stunning! It s just unbelievable! A well preserved Fort with a long history that was also a prison! A lot of history, secret passage, underground rooms, beautiful museums, pathways, stairs, incredibly beautiful views of the bay area and lovely nature. We loved every second here for the feeling, experience, things to do and see. The only regret is that the visit lasted for only 3 hours but for sure you can do so much more here and spend a lot of time. We will do this because is a place to come back for and a beautiful gem for any travellers or history lovers! Definitely a must see in Ireland!

What a great learning experience! I found out ao much about Irish history that I didn't know the day I visited. This place was amazing and a nice place to hike. We walked all around the island and got a wonderful view of Cobh. So perfect!

Visited Spike Island today with family members. We were amazed with the experience well worth a visit. Jessie our tour guide was excellent knew her stuff had great personality and was able to mix humour with business in a place that had a lot of serious history. Would definitely go back again .

This is a fantastic place to visit weather permitting. There is a lot of walking if you want to see all of the Island but it is well worth the effort. The views of the harbour are breathtaking and the x-prison,Naval base is very interesting to walk around. There is a very nice coffee shop with indoor and outdoor seating which is located in the center of the Island. Overall its a very interesting place to visit and and if you have kids they should enjoy the jail and the guns cannons and tanks that are there but they might not enjoy the walking. The tour is about 3 1/2 hours long but believe me it is not enough.

10 out of 10. Just an amazing place on Spike island. The ferry trip to the island is stunning with views of Cork Harbour all round. Once on the island there are some lovely walks up to the fort with an abundance of historic buildings and tunnels. The attraction has been beautifully restored and there is so much to see. Be sure that you that you are okay with a little walking and go early in the morning as you will need the day to see it all. There are toilets and a coffee shop out there. We went out after lunch and did not have enough time to see it all before the last ferry back to Cobh. I will go back again in the summer. A must see. Great for the kids as it is a pure adventure.

Great day out. Tour time aprox 3.5 hrs and you need every bit of it as there ia so much to see and visit. Jail tour areas, military areas and the fort itself. Cafe on the island is great friendly staff and great food all fresh. On if the cleanest tourest cafes i have visited.

Fantastic epic place to visit. If anything a little longer on the island is needed. Takes you back from 1980s to centuries ago. The way the British empire treated ordinary Irish people was despicable. The torture, solitary confinement cells are a special kind of evil. Well worth taking the guided tour, only an hour. Our guide was a lovely young lady named Ciara, very helpful and knew her history. If you go in bad weather wrap up. Will definitely be back

(Translated) The entire island is worth seeing. There are crossings including guided tours (about 1 hour after that time to explore for yourself). But you can also explore the island completely without a tour. There are many showrooms for the different uses of the island. (Original) Die gesamte Insel ist sehenswert. Es werden Überfahrten inklusive geführter Touren (ca. 1h danach Zeit zum selber erkunden) angeboten. Man kann sich aber auch komplett ohne Tour die Insel erkunden. Es gibt viele Ausstellungsräume zu den verschiedenen Verwendungen der Insel.

Great place to visit! You have yourself a tour guy for 30-40 minutes and then you can explore on your own and plenty to see here.

Highly recommend tour. 3 hrs is not enough to fully explore this beautiful but haunting island. Will be returning.

It’s a hassle that the parking around the docks is 3 hours and the tour is 3 and a half hours so you need to use the free car park behind the impressive Cobh cathedral. For two adults and an under 12 was about €56 and included ferry crossing entrance to the fort and a small guided tour. You can either walk all around the island or stay closer to the fort which I would recommend. The tour is about 35 minutes then you are on your own. I believe you can get an audio guide giving more in depth information. The fort is well planned out and very neat and tidy. Information is displayed on boards detailing each area and what it was used for. The only down side is the coffee shop. It is fine for water and minerals but the coffee was bitter and burnt. I asked if it was okay if I flew my drone and once I produced my license and told them my flight plan they were more than happy to allow me fly. I would recommend a visit here as the place is full of historic interest and is different from the usual tours. It is a bit physical but they do provide very good access for people in wheelchairs or limited mobility. Also if you are not fit for the steep climb from the harbour to the cathedral car park you can get a taxi just across the road and it will be about €6.

The tour of this historical place was great (Hannah gave a great and informative tour!)! We enjoyed exploring all the exhibits in the old prison! There was a museum, gift shop, cafe, old prison cells and great views! The view from the boat ride from the city was awesome and we.saw a seal in the water!

This is my second time to visit Spike Island. I absolutely loved it. Our guide Honor was very knowlegable and made the tour fun and interesting. Will definitely return. It's a great experience for the family. You get the boat from Cobh over and back, the tour is free and you get time to look around. There's a Cafe on site.
