Reviews of Donadea Forest Park
A beautiful park and a perfect place for a picnic! If you like to come with your loved ones, walk through the nature trail while talking, and enjoying the serene feeling that this place gives, You have made the correct choice! Coming alone is also a good idea. The old church premises is very calm. Nature trail gives the clarity ( at least for me). Small lake which is filled with ducks is beautiful. Spending some time there is also a nice idea.
In the Dining area, there are four to five tables and it feels like you are sitting in your garden ( if you are privilege enough to have such a garden 😅). Cafeteria owners are really nice. ( They didn’t have cappuccino though 😓).
A beautiful place for a beautiful day!
Stunning place, magic forest! I didn't like a few things like parking can be paid with the card, no problem, with that, but the displayed rate is 4 euros, but in raft was 5 euros. The lovely cafe shop in the middle of the forest, doesn't have a trash can nearby, or maybe I haven't seen it? The only available was black coffee, served from a thermos. I was surprised to find out, when I already had the coffee served, that I could only pay Cash, which I didn’t expect, after I paid for the parking with the card! The information panel is rudimentary and difficult to understand. Despite all of that and the rain today, will be back, place is magic!
What a beautiful place. We spent almost a full day here, and there is a lot to cover. The forest park is 6 kilometres. There is huge parking inside with 5€ charge. You can pay only with the card and no coins are accepted. You will not get any receipt for your parking and while existing the barriers will open automatically. There are many places to sit and enjoy. There is also toilet inside. There is also a cafe inside.
An amazing place. We walked about 2.5hours of wild path and it was incredible. We had perfect weather so great experience all together. We will be back, worth paying 5euros.
Explore the beauty of Donadea Forest Park on a walk along one of the leafy, woodland walks. The 5km long Aylmer Loop brings you across streams and through native broadleaf woods. See marine life all around you on a walk around the lake and see squirrels and birds in the trees on the nature trail. After your walk, relax with a hot drink and tasty snack in the café in the forest park.
Lovely fall colours spread widely across the Donadea forest, it's a treat to the eyes.
Lovely forest and lake. Little coffee shop in the clearing. Nice place for a walk. Dog friendly, kid friendly.
Car park charges 5e ( which goes to coilte) and only takes card/app. Lots of parking space.
I haven't been through with a wheelchair, but I have with a buggy, so Im fairly certain the main trail is wheelchair accessible.
Be aware of the €5 entrance fee at the gate! (Cards only!). No bins anywhere in the park at all and the toilets at the entrance are disgusting. The scenery in the park once you get in however is lovely and the castle and 911 memorial are worth a look. The lake is lovely to stroll around. Although signage is a bit lacking around the place and there are no sanitary bins in the female bathrooms, there is baby changing facilities though and toilets available (use the ones at the café they are ok). Bit of a mixed bag this place is to be honest I probably wouldn't bother going back a second time tbh but ok enough for a stroll and a look if you are in the area.
Beautiful calm forrest park, great for a nice walk with the dog. Nice trails. Not busy, coffee shop was great, very friendly and nice atmosphere. Great coffee. There is plenty to see and nice comfortable trails to walk for as long or short as u want. Parkibg is 5e. U need a card. No cash.
This is a beautiful part of the world with great walks through the forest. perfect for dog walkers as well. They have intermediate and advanced walks, lakes, an old church and memorials. It is €5 to get in, payable by card at the entrance. There are also bathrooms and a coffee shop. Pretty sure the coffee shop only takes revolut or crypto. There are plenty of picnic tables so you can provide your own snacks. It does you good to surround yourself in nature, it's definitely worth the €5.
Amazing place to take the dogs and walk, lots of different trails and no litter. Think the coffee shop is open on the weekend. €5 car entrance fee and is now tap.
Great place to share with family, friends, kids, and pets. Ideal for short and long walks. Great place to enjoy summer time but also to have some rest during the winter time with some fresh air
Beautiful forest with plenty of different walks of varying distances.
Small lake also.
Cafe, toilets and picnic tables on site.
Parking €5 funds upkeep.
Highly recommended.
The ladies in the coffee shop are genuinely the nicest people you could meet. Was there today with the family and the dog and they couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Thank you ladies.
Donadea is an example of the many forested parks across Ireland. Donadea is the site of a park run, if you're into that. The main route is nearly exactly 5k. We went on a Saturday, but later than the 5k itself. There is a castle ruins on the grounds that is fenced off in part.
There are public restrooms at the parking (€5, card reader at the entrance), a small cafe/coffee stand which also has restrooms for services.
There is an interesting and somber 9/11 memorial on the trail dedicated to first responders who lost their lives on the worst terrorist attack on the continental United States and a grove of Irish oaks for a hometown emmigrrant who lost his life on that day.
I did not but take photos of these, I'm sure you can find them on other reviews. As an American (yes, that's what I consider myself) I felt it far more respectful to observe and feel the moment and the solidarity of the people of Ireland.
It is an incredibly beautiful and huge park. There are picnic tables. You can take long walks on the edge of the goal or in the forest.
Card/App payment required for car entry, €5. Lots of tracks and trails. Some ruins of the castle and the 911 memorial set amongst a mix of broad leaf and conifer woodland.
A day out for all: young, old, families , singles, couples, dogs, rabbits and cats (on leash).
A small let down: coffee shop has very limited options of coffee and food.
Bring your own picnic basket.
Great Park for a nice stroll with the family
Spent a couple of enjoyable hours wandering around. €5 entry cards only. Coffee shop on site.
Lovely easy walk in Donadea Forest Park, great place if you have a buggy to push also. We will definitely be back. Even our dogs loved it, but a poopy bin after picking up after our dogs would be a great addition. Just trying to do the right thing here!!
€5 entry , plenty of parking
Nice and clean park, well done for walking or cycling for any age group. There're plenty of benches in park to sit down and enjoy the scenery.
And probably the cleanest toilets in park I've ever seen, spotless
Wasn't expecting it to quite as small of a walk that it is, the café is lovely and the lady was very friendly, I personally didn't think it was great for directions the signs inside the forest where hard to find and not great to follow...
A beautiful place for a walk or a picnic any time of the year.
Beautiful walk and stunning afternoon in Donadea Forest Park!!
Nice place for walking and family picnic. Quiet. Very big car park with entrance fees €5 for cars only.
Picnic area needs a tidy up but great walks and lovely shop
Beautiful and relaxing, looking forward to returning in summer
Beautiful walk with lovely scenery. Get lost in the forrest, have a picnic (or eat outside the cafe), this park is a must.
Pet friendly (but they must be on a lead)
Toilet facilities
You must pay at the barrier for parking by card.
Absolute treasure... very nice walk, and very clean
Amazing place for walks and forest exploration with the kids
Great Park. Lovely walk..Great for kids. Several pairs of nesting Jays for the bird watchers ! The new pay system for entry is great, you can pay by card, saves rooting out coins. Enjoyable experience.
Amazing place, loads of parking, very clean, well maintained park. €5 to get in is decent, nice long walk with a bit of history to see and read along the way.
A wonderful community resource. The facilities are being upgraded with better road surfaces and new eco-toilets installed near the parking. It's a lovely place to walk and a haven for bird watching. In fact, often the birdsong can be the dominant sound - once the work is finished. There are picnic tables distributed around. And a little shop selling tea/coffee cakes and snacks - opening hours vary according to season. During the week, the park is generally uncrowded except when the schools are closed. I believe there will be an entry charge again soon.
Nice forest walk. Very calm and silent. Really good place to enjoy the nature when there no more crowd. So choose none crowded time when you go there.
Lovely place. Huge car park. It can get busy on nice days. Plenty of quiet walks once you leave the cafe area. There are toilet at the cafe available to all.
5euro in and it's coin only. The barrier does not take cards.
Pleasant way to spend your day. Beautiful forest and nice lake with bloomed waterlilies. Not five starts because: You need to pay with contactless to enter with a car, but it's not obvious. There are no trashcans. The cafe doesn't accept cards.
Really enjoy bringing my kids here and we recently got the annual pass. Wish the barrier was more responsive, as it sometimes creates unnecessary queues into the place though. The little cafe is hugely disappointing too, and there are no bins. If you do bring stuff with you, make sure you bring it home. We do not want the birds and ducks feeding on your plastic bottles!
Stunning place, parking entrance machine needs to be updated to accept cards as a few cars had to turn back because it's coins only which was a bit annoying as there isn't much room to manoeuvre once you're at the machine and cars behind. Cafe shop is a bit on the expensive side for what it offers but it's always good to have toilet facilities available and you need staff to maintain these facilities.
A fantastic amenity just 15 minutes drive from Maynooth. Excellent walks within the forest including short walks for the smallies, the onsite cafe serves tea/coffee and a range of homemade cakes, ice cream chocolate bars and sweets. Plenty of tables for picnics also. Lovely to bring a flask and sandwiches even in the cold weather. Entrance fee €5 per car payable by card or coin. We'll worth a visit.
Family and dog friendly. Plenty of path and forest track walks. A swing in the woods and don't forget to look for the gruffalo's house! €5 at gate in 50c, €1 & €2 coins. Don't come without it or the barrier won't lift.
Nice park. We went there for Santa who was very good. The present was nothing special,, but it's for the experience that we went. There is a cafe there which serves basic food and coffee, but the staff are very nice. It is also nice grounds to walk around. You pay €5 for parking and the machine only accepts coins and the exact change. We were lucky as we happened to have it on us.
A good sized wood for a pleasant stroll. All routes are hard surface so bike buggy and wheelchair friendly. A memorial honouring the 9/11 disaster. Hot drinks available at kiosk and large car park available €4 coin toll on entry
Wow breathtaking views to just pause....take a breathe and get a cuppa and take your pups for a stroll. Loved it just nature and you.
Donadea forest park is an amazing and magical place I have been going there since I was able to walk and we even use to swim in the lake and In turn I have brought my children the eldest being 18. The park is kept immaculate and the events that are held are amazing. I don't think 5 euros is a lot to pay in for the privilege of being able to use the park. If there was anything I would change is that it should be able to take notes at the entrance.
Rating is after what I witnessed. The picnic area across from the cafe is now for cafe consumers use only they have signs on tables stating this. A family came with picnic went to sit down but had to get up and move else where to try have picnic. They said they have been their many a time and have used the picnic area but never had this problem. They said they won't be back and are telling their friends and relations. This is were family had picnics and the kids played why change now.
Great place to escape from town and enjoy in nature. Nice for cycling too.
The place is beautiful well worth a visit .. You have to pay 5 euro in the car park, by card.. but the shop doesn't except card 😕 bit silly if you ask me and a bit steep for parking
immense demesne
These estate grounds off the Clane road are a great spot for a ramble. There are a few tracks of different lengths that are well signed. There is a little cafe with outdoor tables. Bring some change for getting into the car park.
Best place for walks &picnics . Carpark is 5 euro you can pay with credit card at the entrance. There is a bar & rest room, bar only accepts cash
fantastic place to visit , any time of the year. We found a lot of trees had being blown down by the recent winds ( storm Opheila ) when we visited at the end of october, and still had not being tidied up , which makes a mockery of paying €5 entrance fee to get into the woods car park
Lovely place to walk.. €5 very steep for parking as it doesn't offer anything..coffee shop ok a bit expensive and unfortunately when it's closed so are the toilets as its the only public toilets in the forestry..
Beautiful place so peaceful..
Was a lovely walk , got some great photos but need to empty the bins more often as the where over flowing
Lovely place for a walk with the kids
Great place for a walk/run. Cafe should accept card but doesn't... No bins, only instant coffee. Go for the place not the cafe.
Very nice walk, just note that you need to tap with card (€5) to enter the car park!!
Great spot for walking, cycling there is a car park charge.
Great to be able to get out into such a lovely area during lock down. Great for a walk, picnic.
A good place to take the kids out for a run in the woods, make sure you have 5 euros in coins for the parking gate.
Fantastic Coilte Forest park with more paths than you could shake a stick at. Coffee shop at the end.
Lovely forest with walks of all durations. But the cafe is terrible.
5e parking is bit pricey. Coffee shop waste of time but forest very nice
I really enjoyed everything about Avondale park 🏞️, I will like to go again
Nice secluded forest with many trails that aren't strenuous or too long.
Lovely forest, nice small lake and seating area.
Great place walking running, chilling out
Lovely place to go for a run or just to relax
Lovely walks. Peaceful. Clean.
Great forest walks.
Big place, long patches, great for calm and chill
An amazing and magical place to get lost in .
Great place to get lost in
Interesting place. There is a large parking lot where you can walk, entrance fee is 5e, card only.
A great place to take a breather, well-maintained trails. Lots to see
A beautiful place for relaxation and a long walk, a beautiful forest and a lake full of ducks, I recommend it. Attention! There are automatic gates at the entrance, for which you have to pay in cash and only in coins (5 Euro).
Great place
