A. R.Booked in a small group for our little girls christening recently. Fab hospitality from start to finish. Dined in the most beautifully decorated room, at no extra cost. Our kids loved all the space to play around in without causing any obstruction to the most attentive waiters. We were all well looked after so I was delighted I choose the TF for this great celebration.
The meal was also delicious with great variety. They even put our baby's photo on the menu! Thanks so much to Carmel & all the staff for our great day out.
V. B.Went out with a few friends. The food was excellent. The drinks were great. However the best part was the staff we had two servers, a young one and a middle aged man both were humorous and patient which resulted in us having a few laughs.
G. B.Went here while on a trip to Castlebar. Chose the place for its well covered outdoor dining area as the weather was terrible. I have to say they have a wonderful menu and everything we ate was delicious. Definitely 9/10 for the food. But the service was very lacking. We had to wait a good five minutes after receiving our food before getting knives and forks to eat it with. My friend asked for a gin and 7up but only received the gin. We had to ask a second time for the 7up. We waited so long for our dessert you would swear they were baking it there and then for us. As I said I can't fault the food at all. Top marks to the wonderful chef. But the servers weren't great.

Can be a bit hit and miss.
To clarify, i been here probably half a dozen times over the last couple of years. The hit part is good food, attentive staff, central location and a clean establishment.
The miss part is the consistent application of some of the above. My last visit there was memorable for the rudeness of one middle aged staff member and cold food. Which I complained about to a Poorly trained young lad. The boorish missed aged man was rude and ignorant in his handling of my complaint.
So to repeat most times has been above good with the one terrible experience.

Food was also very good. Will definitely be staying again when near the area

The Location: Is excellent, being minutes from both the centre of the old down and the newer part. There was a number of parking spaces out front and we had no issue acquiring one though this might be an issue during more busy periods. It is opposite the county hospital and convenient to various main roads and the bus stop.
Pets: We give massive bonus points for allowing us to bring our German Shepherd. I cannot express enough how happy that made us.
The Room: This is where the hotel let itself down. We stayed in room 126. While this was a mish-mash of décor from at least 3 separate decades, our main complaint was the very poor ventilation. While there is a window in the bathroom, it leads out on literally a black hole. There is nothing there which is a consequence of the hotel somewhat organically growing over the years with no provision made for such windows and ventilation needs. The bedroom window overlooks an rooftop alley with a high wall opposite and being perhaps only a metre away and allowing for very little air circulation in the room, even with the window fully open and curtain back. The alleyway was quite filthy and it would not have taken much effort to have swept it and given the wall a lick of paint. The room itself appeared to be sprayed with something and was stuffy so the lack of ventilation, especially at night made it hard to get a good night's sleep, despite the large bed. I do appreciate that there is a good chance we were not given the best room because we brought a pet and we were game for that. However, we were entitled to good night's sleep which we did not get.
The Staff: This is where the hotel really shone. We met about 10 separate individual staff members and all were extremely friendly, courteous and helpful to us. My highest praise to them and kudos to management for their recruitment practice.
The Breakfast: Consisted of both a simple buffet and an a la carte menu. The buffet was serviceable and the second morning I chose the crepes with bacon and maple syrup which were delicious. The coffee, which came in a cafetiere, was surprising good, good enough to drink it straight.
The Dinner: This was extra. The food was lovely - smoked salmon to start with and a quality cut of striploin steak. Bonus points for not just having non-alcoholic beer but non-alcoholic wine. That was a very nice and considerate touch for which my wife was grateful.
While we were less than pleased with the room, the fact that pets were welcome and the quality of staff helped take the edge off that. I'd kindly ask the TF hotel management to fix up that room (and probably 125 as well from the looks of it) or, more to the point, close them off entirely. With the dramatic lack of ventilation, they're simply not fit for purpose.

Accommodation The room was clean and fresh and breakfast was lovely.
Bar food again what could be said about the bar food except that it was excellent.
Only problem is they need to have more staff on the floor serving the food. There was only one girl serving on Saturday night, there was a show on so, there were quite a few people in the bar. Services was very slow, this could be rectified by having more staff serving.

S. C.14 December 2019 TF Royal Castlebar facilities and room was very roomy and clean. Food was good but had to ask for eggs for Irish breakfast. Downside of the stay was the noise next door on first floor as I was placed beside drunken teenagers and did not get a wink of sleep all night. But overall good value and good service.

I asked and was told as it was a large room they dont need them...... other than that all else was fine but would like more PPE in place if i went back.

However, the heat of the theatre during this concert was immense making it so uncomfortable, I did not think I would be able to stay but just about managed to. Ventilation is a must.

W.Fantastic theatre and hotel in centre of Castlebar, where they bring all the top shows artists musicals and conferences to town, bringing huge numbers from all over the country into the town, many of whom make a weekend of it. The theatre can seat up to two thousand, making it one of the largest in the country.

C. S.We called in for lunch after a hospital appointment so it was closer to 4 pm than 3pm. The roast beef was beautiful and tender and the roasties were roasties not burnies. My other half had the lamb stew and he said it was good but he'd have preferred the roast beef, he thought. Service was good - no delays - smiling faces.
T. O.Really enjoyed the Paul Brady concert, but found it difficult to get served at bar. Take your order then forget about you and serve loads of others. A bit cold as well. Excellent view of the stage however and space to get in and out.

The Royal Theatre, which was used as the count centre for the EU's is a very impressive space. Would l ik keep to come back some time to see a show here.

The beef was dry and the gravy was pepper sauce which i only put on the first slice of beef as it was nearly four pm i understood the beef being a little dry.
The barman disappearing somewhat unprofessional how and ever he and the chef were polite and friendly
