M.I have been there yesterday with my team from work. Initially we had reserved for 6 people but then needed to increase to 9, which was no issue for the staff and capacity of the restaurant - thanks!
The atmosphere inside is very nice and seems like in a classic Italian restaurant.
I had the Vitello tonato as starter, then the papardelle al ragu followed by a tiramisu.
The quality of the food was very good. The dishes were tasty and presented in an appealing way.
I give “only” 4 stars, as the portions were quite small considering the rather high prices.
Overall, we had a very nice evening and the food was great!
Will go there again but maybe being slightly
less hungry.

This hidden gem along the Portobello canal line is a must for anyone wanting to indulge themselves on fine wine and even finer foods. I Monelli brought us back to Italy with their authentic Italian food. The waiting staff are lovely and professional. The atmosphere was quaint and romantic. Overall absolutely fabulous.
The starters have a huge range of choices from fish to veal or vegetarian options but we decided to have sides as our starters with some baked baby potatoes and sauteed broccoli 'ndujia (absolutely delicious).
For our mains my partner had a vegetarian homemade tagliatelle with selected mushrooms, truffle oil and shaved "Parmigiano" cheese (foreground of attached photo) and I had the homemade Pappardelle pasta with venison ragout and Barbera wine reduction (background of photo). We had a lovely red salice salentino wine to compliment our meal too. These mains were so well balanced and flavourful. Two of the best Italian dishes we have had.
Finally I had a vanilla ice cream with an Italian espresso shot and my partner had the coffee Mousse with Italian Biscuit. A lovely and light dessert to finish the experience.
I cannot recommend this authentic Italian restaurant enough. Grazie!

R. T.On first impression. Quaint little restaurant. Had high expectations going in for food but was quite disappointed by the food. While the flavors of the pasta was great and fresh, under cooked pasta is the most basic thing you shouldn’t go wrong with.
The service was polite but after explaining to the waitress that the food was under cooked there was no apology or remedy given.
Disappointed and won’t be going back.

I can highly recommend the Gambas as a starter, the strawberry sauce is just delicious. For the main, I had the monkfish in poppy seed crush. Never having eating monkfish before, I was positively surprised. Overall, the restaurant and the experience we had were beyond my expectations. Service was so quick even though we were such a large group. I will definitely come back!

Hard to judge as it was a cold evening for outdoor dining... They had an outdoor canopy set up. Unfortunately there was no heaters or blankets. We had a lobsided table that rocked so we had to hold on to our drinks
The food was average but as I said it wasn't a night for outdoor dining so unfair to judge
We would like to try again when we can get a nice indoor table and enjoy as we usually do

F. M.Fancy Italian restaurant, very good especially regarding pasta dishes.
The presentation of the dishes is "quite upscale", this raise a lot the expectations re the taste, and these are not always met. But don't get me wrong, the food taste great, and some dishes are really special... especially pasta. This is one of the top5 Italian restaurant of all Dublin (and there are many).
The owner is very nice, and high chance he will stop at your table for a quick chat.
As it is close to the canal, I would suggest going there when there is light outside to enjoy a stroll. The place it great for a romantic dinner, or a small group of friends. Highly recommended.
Ah, and do not forget to order wine, they have good ones!

A. T.I visited this place for my anniversary in Dec 2018, and I wasn't disappointed at all. The waiting staff was friendly and their recommendations for food and wine pairing were spot on. The food itself is great, and the pricing is way more reasonable than some of the other Italian restaurants in town.

This place is a little more expensive than the average Italian restaurant in Dublin, but it is well worth it. There is a great, accessible dining room downstairs that we like to sit in with our family so the children do not to disturb the romantic diners upstairs. The restaurant is in a very pretty setting along the canal.

Unfortunately no photos on this occasion as when the food arrived it looked and smelled so good we just had to get stuck straight in.

G. G.As a food lover, I have always have been tried to be highly selective. Specially when it comes to my home food.
Gianni, the owner, is even picker than me! He selects every single ingredients carefully looking for incredibly high (and expensive) quality of primary ingredients and sources for his cuisine.
Nonetheless, the food has been above expectations.
I particularly suggest shrimps as a starter, risotto as a main, and the orange tart, or gelato as dessert.
Even though everything else I had was really high standards..

D. R.It had been a few months since we'd dined at I Monelli but it was as good as ever for an early evening Sunday dinner in May. It was nice to see that there are some new additions to the menu as well as the tried and tested dishes. I had one of the new starter dishes, cold beef tongue with a parsley and olive oil salsa. The flavours of the dish were very good but the tongue itself was a little overcooked and therefore tough. Since it is a new offering, this may be just a teething problem. My wife tried two of the new dishes, a steak tartare for starter and a risotto infused with buratta for main, both enjoyed very well. The third person in our group was happy to stick with two standards, minestrone soup followed by the pappardelle al cervo, which I chose for main course also. These were prepared to the usual high standard. We enjoyed three glasses of Franciacorta as aperitifs and drank an outstandingly delicious Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2016 'Amaranta di Ulisse' during the meal. Gianni and his crew were as engaging and as efficient as always while the ambience of I Monelli remained as authentically Italian as ever.

J. D.The restaurant itself is comely and spacious with warm colours and a welcoming atmosphere. The staff are all very quaint people but friendly all the same with the manager Gianni being very passionate flamboyant and energetic so much so that you can certainly tell that he cares very much about what he does. Now for the food the most important part of the review for a restaurant. I had the antipasto with viel and it was delicious the portion was a bit small but I am sure that it was just because I have a ferocious appetite. For the main course I had paccheri with monkfish it came in a decent portion and was surprisingly filling but it was also delicious and packed with flavour. And for the part of the meal that carries the most import that being the dessert. I had the mouth watering chocolatissimo a small (unfortunately) cake of a chocolate casing but a heart of hot chocolate I would personally put this in the spot of my second favourite dessert (the first being torta de la Nonna). All in all I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Starter of smoked artichoke mousse in filo cones; followed by monkfish in cherry tomato sauce with home made papadelle had the most surprisingly light touch, seasonal venison ragú, wild mushroom risotto. We couldn't resist the desert menu and the delivery surpassed our expectations; tempered dark chocolate log with white chocolate mousse within & pistachio cream; saffron infused pannacotta... An outstanding 3-courses of the most incredible Italian feast I've ever had in Ireland!

m. m.Have driven past this place very often and obviously have wondered what it would be like so being Christmas decided to book A table and give it a try..Ok so being a very cold night when i decided to go probably wasn't the best time to judge the place because it was nearly as cold inside as it was outside..it was the first thing I noticed and it was an instant turn off...it might have been that it was very early in the evening and the place had not warmed up..but in saying that everything else was very good..staff were very friendly and informative of what on the specials..food was beautifully cooked and just about enough..wine needless to say was Italian and very reasonably priced..overall a lovely evening but for the cold..
