I have finally found the best restaurant in Ireland! Food is just delicious, cocktails are mouthwatering and refreshing, staff is very friendly (it was great to see so many smiling faces), and also the interior of the place is very romantic, cozy and beautiful. I cannot praise this beautiful restaurant and it's excellent staff enough. I LOVE my food and Il Vicolo has a truly delicious menu, I'm not a vegan but the vegan friends I brought there were so delighted they've returned a few times since. Great wine too. Beautiful little restaurant, staff were great and everything was with a smile. Food was so good, Bruchetta along with a cheese board to start was delicious, would highly recommend. Cocktails were really nice, ordered both an Old Fashioned and an Irish Old Fashioned. A friend recommended this place to us. Our lunch experience here was absolutely beautiful and cosy. The first thing we heard when entering and going down the stairs was a friendly voice coming from one of the waiters saying "Come on in guys, I'm just putting my moustache on!". It cracked us up and set the mood for a contemporary, chilled and super romantic dining experience. We were the first ones there - it was noon - and we got the cutest little table on the deck outside on top of the river. There are flowers and herbs in pots all around the tables, and the sound of the river and the very subtle beat from the music inside is a perfect audio setting. The personell were all fantastically friendly - not too imposing and not too absent. Super nice guys, and the service was impeccable. So, now for the main event - the food: So, so, so tasty and beautiful. We ended up having three courses because everything was so great and we just enjoyed the setting there so much. It is definitely worth the price tag which isn't even too expensive. Thank you so much for the food and the service - we will be back. Our highest recommendations to visit here when you're in Galway.

Great place and great people are working here!!! Delicious food and a wide selection of organic herbal teas. Of course they have wine and other drinks as well :) To those who say restaurant challenging the covid safety guideline... Your experts say that If you got a shot, you are safe, so no worry. Additionally, eating so good, fresh and healthy food with a herbal tea (I recommend camomile tea for those not feeling safe) in friendly atmosphere, as it is in this restaurant, build your immune system. Guys, I'm proud of You!!! Had the best time ever at this restaurant. The food was absolutely sublime, honestly the best Gnocchi I’ve ever ever had. Great food. Nestled in the basement of the brigemills in Galway. Don't let the narrow stairs put you off. There is plenty of space in the former mill. Which is evident from the mill wheel behind glass or the balcony out between the canal and Corrib river. The food was lovely, plenty of choice with a real Italian feel. It is s bit more expensive then other restaurants nearby, but on par it other Italian restaurant. Staff were a little neglectful. 4 of 5 would go again.

Loved this restaurant from the moment we entered it. We were greeted with a warm welcome by Breffini who showed us to our lovely table overlooking the river. It was just beautiful . The food was yummy and the staff were so friendly especially Tessa and another staff member ( didn’t catch his name) but he told us he started off in restaurant as a kitchen Porter and now works as waiter. They were very knowledgeable on the menus and were able to recommend a nice bottle of wine with confidence. Loved this beautiful Italian restaurant and can’t wait to return on our next trip to Galway .

Have been there many years. Food is top notch and of the highest quality. Their desire not to facilitate a two tier society by these ridiculous mandatory vaccination passport codswallop is a testament to the restaurant. Sad many others don't follow suit. What's even sadder is that many poorly educated shills won't do their own research leaving vile reviews. These people should put energy into researching and you might discover that the numbers are falsified using poor scientific manipulative testing practices that could not differentiate between influenza and covid. Instead of recommending exercise and a healthy diet, the government would rather promote highly dangerous experimental vaccines. I feel sorry for those that fell for the lie these vaccines had obtained "approval". These have been approved only for emergency use authorization. The "approved" vaccine is known as Comirnaty and is not set to release until a later stage. Many have been conned by implicitly trusting a government that has repeatedly dangled the carrot and instead, given them the stick. Alas, most importantly it's a fantastic place to eat. Great atmosphere and friendly staff who respect your privacy and right to bodily autonomy. Anyone complaining about covid 19 related nonsensical restrictions, you have plenty of space between one another and let's not forget, the vaccine does absolutely nothing to prevent transmission.

GALWAY RESTAURANT IS THE FIRST BUSINESS IN IRELAND TO CHALLENGE THE VACCINE PASS AT COURT ON GROUNDS OF DISCRIMINATION A District Court Judge in Galway was asked on Monday 4th October to set aside a Compliance Notice issued on 20th August and which had been served upon the owners of a well known Italian restaurant in Galway City known as Il Vicolo. The Restaurant had been served with the notice by a number of HSE compliance officers appointed under the Health Acts 1947-2021 (as amended) otherwise known as the ‘Indoor Dining Legislation’. The Restaurant was appealing the order whilst the HSE were seeking to shut the restaurant down by way of a cessation order. The Restaurant had been inspected on several occasions because of their stance and was shut down for two days in September following a HSE application for an emergency cessation order. Oisin Collins Senior Counsel for the restaurant submitted that the EU Digital Covid Certificate Regulation provided for a third category of testing. This had been included at a European level in order to avoid issues of direct and indirect discrimination as people may not be able to get a vaccine or may choose to get a vaccine. This omission was a clear breach of the regulation itself, European privacy law, the Constitution, the European Charter of Fundamental Rights and the EU Convention on Human Rights. He submitted that his position on the issue of discrimination was unanswerable. In reply, Stephen Moran BL for the HSE said the Irish Government were effectively 'at large' in relation to how they wished to deal with the issue of re-opening pubs and restaurants at a domestic level given the serious threat to public health and the rise in cases due to the Delta variant. District Judge, John King having heard detailed submissions on discrimination, decided that he did not have to rule on this issue as the Compliance Notice only went so far as to require records rather than prohibit people from entering. Gerry commented after the hearing: ‘Our restaurant has been non-stop inspected by Compliance Officers since this law was imposed because of our non-discriminatory stance and this has been our third time to appear at court. It was very difficult for my entire staff when we were shut down without notice and we all suffered financial loss. I work on my instinct and right from the get go I had a strong feeling that this law is wrong, discriminatory and divisive. My principles and convictions are very important to me. I have two children and a baby on the way and I feel that it is my moral and ethical duty to challenge such laws and policies. For if we do not take a stance and legally challenge the erosion of our civil and constitutional rights what future have our children?’. Lawyers For Justice wish to commend owner Gerry McMahon and the staff of Il Vicola, particularly Breffni Archer, for demonstrating such courage, integrity and strength of conviction. In the words of Mahatma Gandhi: 'Fear Is The Enemy'

Fab restaurant, Breffini went above and beyond for us to be able to get a table as they were very busy with limited walk ins available. He really made our night by getting us a table and the atmosphere was really lovely. The food and cocktails were fantastic and the setting over the river was great. Incredible night last night in Il Vicolo. I didn't have a reservation but they kindly found a table for us and were so obliging. The staff, esp Gabby and the guy with the beard, were so helpful from when we arrived. We originally only wanted drinks but seen the food that was coming from the kitchen, we had to order some. The squash risotto & pea + pesto pasta was nothing short of amazing. Would 100% recommend going back, next time I'm going to make sure to book!

Unfortunately we didn't has the greatest customer experience that we were hoping for. We came from Canada with the intention of having a romantic dinner at this restaurant to celebrate our engagement. We absolutely fell in love with the venue as soon as we walked in. We chatted with one of the managers prior making a reservation, she was very nice, she showed us the place around and answer all our questions. We were very interested in reserving the table by the semi-circular window that overlooks at the river (picture attached). She said they don't take reservations under any circumstances for that table as is very popular, they basically keep it on first come basis. However, she said we could make a reservation and they could make a note that we were interested in that table. So we did. Upon our check in we were received by a girl with a terrible attitude, later on I found out that she was the other manager, I think her name is Louis? There was absolutely no one sitting on that table nor in that section of the restaurant so we asked for the table we so much wanted. With a terrible attitude, she said that table was reserved for 8 pm and that we will be only allowed (and that was the term she used) to one course meal. We agreed, we thought we would take the 50 minutes on that table and enjoy it but she still gave us attitude. Later on I found out that the table was reserved for a chef that worked in the restaurant. I felt very disappointed that they made an exception based on favouritism. If they say they dont take reservations then it should be it and we should have been allowed to enjoy our 3 course meal in the table of our preference. I'm terribly disappointed with the customer service here. I think if they say they dont take reservations for specific tables, then they should respect that and allow the guests to enjoy their meals wherever they are sitting at.

Great food, a bit expensive but worth it. Very cosy atmosphere. It's also possible to sit outside by the river here, which is very nice on sunny days. The mains are around 30EUR, but pasta around 20. Have been meaning to try for dinner, but have only managed to get there for brunch which was delicious. Not all the traditional brunch items, some were disappointed by lack of pancakes or waffles but what was there was delicious! We ambitiously ordered a charcuterie and cheese board to start before our brunch items. Everything was lovely, very satisfying! Tea cups could have been bigger, pet hate of mine is cups you can’t even fit your finger through. Coffee was nice. Setting is a real draw here, the mill offers a lovely surrounding and a seat beside the big window, it’s half moon shaped and looks out on the water and little courtyard, would be ideal. I’d recommend requesting that table on booking!

Unique venue. The Italian restaurant is situated in an old mill beside the bridge of the river Corrib close to Galway city centre. We went there for lunch and were served authentic Italian seafood pasta by authentic Italian servers. The wine is mainly organic and expensive by the glass. My large glass was over 16 euro. The pasta was tasty and felt very fresh and clean on the palate and stomach. Hope to visit again soon.

As well as the food being absolutely amazing, All the staff were beyond words, but Aisling dealt with us mainly throughout our time here and she made the experience all the more unforgettable. She had me and my now fiance laughing and smiling even after we left the restaurant, The staff made a big fuss of us knowing that I had proposed and even brought down a bottle of Prosecco as a congratulations to us. No amount of writing reviews is going to get my point across enough, that point being The restaurant, the Food, the Staff all made an amazing occasion that little bit more memorable and special! The waterwheel, gear mechanisms, drive wheel for conveyor belts are visible remains of a working factory that the building once housed before electricity. This is the most accessable display of industrial revolution water powered industry that was once the definition of Galway. Elegant wine bar.
