Reviews of Loam Restaurant

Absolutely fantastic dining experience.
The restaurant is very open space and has an Asian vibe to it (maybe die to the light fixtures), which is pleasant. The tables face the kitchen, so you can see some of the action.
The food is outrageously tasty. The combinations of flavours and presentation are excellent, and make for probably the second best meal I've had in Ireland.
The floor staff are attentive and know their stuff; we had great chats about their food and the Irish food scene in general.
Yes it's a bit pricey, but the portions are generous (for a Michelin) that is and the experience is truly memorable.
Can't recommend going here enough.

Had dinner here recently and it absolutely exceeded my expectations. Actually, I don't really know what I expected, but the whole experience was overwhelmingly positive. The food is just unreal and each course was paced brilliantly. We felt like we could savour each dish without being rushed. The egg and squid noodle dish is honestly one of the greatest things I've ever tasted! We also got the wine pairings which were SPOT ON with each course. The Sommelier (can't remember his name!) was so informed and chatted to us with ease, gave us loads of recommendations. The decor is just a dream, modern, funky, totally European, you could imagine it being a really trendy club after dining hours :D. But I could not leave a review without mentioning the wonderful, friendly, helpful staff who really were the icing on the cake for us. They made the evening for us and we could've stayed all night! SUPERB, and would recommend to everyone. Treat yo'self!

We are blown away by the level of the kitchen as well as the service. We ate at many Michelin starred restaurants all around the world and in our opinion the food, the service and the sommelier are easily worth a second star. Very well done and thank you very much. Looking forward to coming back!
B. O.
We had the most fabulous meal here last night. The restaurant has a very relaxing atmosphere. The staff are so attentive, knew the menu inside out and accommodated any requests without hesitation. The food was really exceptional - every one of the seven courses was amazing. We had a clear view of the kitchen and could see all the food being prepared. It was like watching a fine performance. Not a raised voice all evening. It has taken us a long time to get to Loam, but our return visit will be very soon. Thank you for a lovely evening.
D. S.
Absolutely brilliant! Service was impeccable, some great extra touches - free bubbles and cake as it was our anniversary meal. Food was full off flavour with excellent presentation. Our table was practically in the kitchen, full view of everything which was great. Kitchen team worked seamlessly and so well organised. Stuffed leaving after food and flight. Thanks guys!

An incredible dining experience, one that every self-proclaimed foodie should make a point to stop in for if visiting Galway (I sure did!). The experience from start to finish is culinary excellence. The head chef even greets you with the snack course after seating. The wait staff were all very attentive and knowledgeable in the ingredients of the menu. Very clean, minimalist environment with design inspirations of local wooded forests.
But the best part was obviously the food. If you can afford it, I'd highly recommend the larger (9-course) tasting menu. Eat dish was incredibly unique in local flavours and brought about very creative combinations of flavours and smells. I won't spoil it for you, but make sure you have the dessert courses even if you don't have a sweet tooth, and get ready for some umami explosions peppered throughout the menu.

Amazingly good restaurant.
We got the 7 course tasting meal with wine pairings.
Each course was lovely, brilliant tastes and beautifully balanced. The staff were fantastic, talking through all of the courses with us and joking with us - which we enjoyed!
The wine pairings were also lovely, each of the 6 wines was described by the sommelier prior to the food arriving.
The restaurant would be best for a romantic meal but could also be a nice place for a group of friends. It is a nice place so try to dress up a little, but there isn't a dress code (that I am aware of!).
At the end of the meal we received an envelope with our meal details on it and wine pairings to take home.
The meal here was wonderful and we would definitely return if in the area.

Loam ranks as one of the best meals we’ve had - in Ireland or anywhere. The setting feels luxurious in an unassuming way, stylish and restrained. Service is just right in the balance between attention and allowing you to chat with your party. The wine pairings are interesting - some challenging, some more straightforward - and well explained by the sommelier. And the food, of course, is brilliant: inventive but not wacky, bold and delicious.
K.
Our meal in Loam was exquisite, with each course building on the last and taking your tastebuds on an expertly crafted journey. The setting is stylish yet unpretentious, and each plate was deceptively simple but perfectly executed, balanced, and full of flavour.
If you are open-minded and willing to try new things you will thoroughly enjoy the experience of dining here.
I'd highly recommended the wine pairings with each course. Though I'm not a wine buff, the sommelier's selections really enhanced the experience. The staff were polite, friendly, and so professional.
Though it's not cheap, I think Loam is worth every penny in terms of the quality and service.
Looking forward to dining here again in future!

The charm and understated graceful simplicity of the environment was a beautiful foil to the complexity and depth of flavors of the food. This tasting menu was so balanced and flowed so well between each course ! The duck confit in the radicchio is likely to be the perfect "desert island" food (I could live on just that if stranded!). Every staff member was not only knowledgeable but incredibly friendly and took so much time to talk about the dishes and the wine. This evening will be remembered !
J. y.
Winter menu is much better than summer time last year:) signature dish of squid noodle is delicious as always. Dessert remains good quality. Love it! The sommelier did a very good job! Waitress (Tabitha) provided good service yesterday. Have to say that..this time Loam deserves the one star:)
J. D.
Unforgettable dinning experience - the food is more like an art, beautifully paired with wine. Interior is very warm and spacious. Loam has a Michelin star and it's absolutely deserved. Highly recommended.
J. P.
Great well-executed food.
Nice interpretations & interesting flavor combinations.
They can change the dishes for you if you are allergic/don’t eat certain ingredients. Very accommodating!
K. N.
One of my most cherished memories from Galway! The food was absolutely fantastic. Every course combined a unique pallet of flavors. Even my brother who doesn’t care for seafood loved the food here. I highly recommend the 7-course meal! Well worth the experience and the money.
N. A.
Really fun restaurant, but definitely a departure from the typical local fare. Exquisite, complicated flavors and really good wine pairings. A fairly typical dish (not pictured, sadly) was squid noodles over a lightly poached egg with a shiitake mushroom broth. Not squid ink pasta, actual, finely cut strips of squid. An unforgettable dinner, but not one I'd repeat too often.
B. F.
We had a wonderful time at Loam! The staff is extra friendly and the food is amazing. We were looking forward to having dinner there and we were not disappointed! The 7 courses tasting menu was 👌
A relaxed and friendly Michelin restaurant, we strongly recommend 🌟
J. Z.
While I was thrown off at first by the service, once the food arrived, all was forgiven. Excellent use of local ingredients in a way that was delicious, unique, and also, satisfying in a way that modern cuisine often lacks. I left feeling full and like I had experienced a place unique to Galway though inspired by the Nordic cuisine and aesthetic. The decor was very nice and minimal and the gin and tonic was top notch!
A. S. A.
One of the best restaurants in Ireland. Worth trying when in Galway. Food was great and with no real wait. Staff very cheerful and nice as well.
J. M.
I had a fantastic experience at Loam. It has a laid back atmosphere, the staff was very friendly, the food was perfect and pairing the dishes with the wine enhanced all the flavours! I lived it and recommend.
Y. T. L.
Our first few visits to Michelin star restaurants and thought it to be of great value and definitely enjoyed our meals there. The waitress who served us was very attentive!
m. m.
Had the 7 course and paired wines on Tuesday evening. It was a sublime culinary experience. Every day ingredients were combined with various flavouring elements and presented beautifully, every mouthful delivered an explosion of taste. The paired wines enhanced the overall experience. The service was just right, informative and lighthearted. Having the menu to take home means I can revisit the experience and perhaps consider the combinations in my own kitchen. Well done to all for safe service.
M. K.
Fantastic experience. Fantastic staff and food. 5 stars. Spotlessly clean and they pay great attention to details.
M. B.
Amazing food, really well executed menu and a real experience and treat!
P. K.
Came from Limerick to try out the fine dining, and wasn't disappointed. Very nice experience, dishes presented very well and some interesting tastes in them of course. Everyone at our table went for the 7 course menu and we were all full at the end of it. Bring a mask since you're supposed to wear it on the way to the table, and going to the restroom etc. All staff wearing masks as well, which makes it a bit difficult to understand them when they are talking about the dishes or the wine but it is what it is. Overall satisfied with the visit!
A. D.
Utterly superb, as always. Friendly and welcoming staff, attentive covid compliance and incredibly delicious food. Felt very safe COVID-wise, and the food was an adventure as always. Special mention to the squid noodles and the tomato sorbet, both of which were both strange and amazing. Thoroughly looking forward to coming back.
P. B.
Best tasting menu in Ireland 2019, no competition
B. Y.
Very friendly, great ambiance and amazing tastes. Good they serves delicious soda and other breads with it, coz otherwise the 7-course dinner would leave anyone hungry (not sure why portions would be so small, apart from pretense of luxury or so!).
The courses came quickly after each other, maybe appreciated by some, but gave us a bit rushed feel (there were enough free tables, so that wasn’t the reason why).
T. M.
Tasting menu was excellent, everything fresh and full of flavour, some lovely and we'll thought out dishes. Sadly was driving so could not get the wine pairings. Staff excellent, helpful and friendly.
J. K.
Just fu.king delicious.
There’s nothing left to say!!!!!
Go there, try,You'll go back home very happy.
F. S.
The seven course tasting menu was outstanding as was the wine pairing. Everything was spot on. Service was superb.
A. M.
Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough! Everything about my experience of eating there, was wonderful; from the unobtrusive, seemless service, to the food itself. The 7 course tasting menu was exquisite, with each dish its own little voyage of discovery; bursting with flavour, texture, colour and aroma! The accompanying wine was also delicious and Niall, the Somelier, is a treasure! The setting and ambience is informal and relaxed and I will most definitely be going back! 😊
S. F.
Simply incredible. A must visit! Don't think twice, just go. Enjoy!
J. S.
The COVID precautions were well adhered too. Despite the precautions the service was excellent with the staff showing great knowledge of the food and wine. They were friendly and attentive the whole night and the quality of the food was not diminished due to my dietary requirements.
A. A.
Fantastic food, fantastic service!
What a night out - I was there by myself but the waiters made my stay very special. I had the 7 course sample menue, every course was a delight. The accompanying wine was a feast. Thank you for a very special evening in a nice and cosy atmosphere.
C. C.
The best Michelin star restaurant we’ve been to so far (including a 3 star). The “Squid, shiitake & egg” and the “sirloin, onion & bone marrow” were the stand out dishes but every course was exception. had a tasting menu for €78. Did not have the wine pairings just a bottle of wine for €44. Small servings of delicious food. Brown bread was the best ever. Not the food we are used to and at the prices not every week. Still its worth trying once and I would go again.
A. S.
Such a beautiful restaurant the food was exceptional and each individual member part of the service team made the night very special, thank you! Highly recommend. We cannot wait to come back!
C. L.
A true experience of the art and taste of fine dining. This was our first time here. We choose the amazing 9 course tasting menu with the wine pairing. Our sommelier was a delight; his description of each course's wine pairing added to our dining experience. If you're in Galway, make a point of dining at Loam.
S. D.
Last night I did the 7 course wine pairing and was stunned by the level of professionalism, quality and innovation. The entire staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The food is out of this world. Worth mentioning was the sommelier Nile and of coarse his American counterpart, who were incredibly amusing and knowledgeable. Thank you Loam for making my stay in Galway special!
J. p.
Myself and my partner have been here twice. Never disappointed. Wonderful food, wonderful staff, wonderful ambience. Will 100% go again. Tried tasting menus both times and will definitely return again and try again when back in Galway again. Highly recommend this beautiful place. Hidden gem in the citt
C. D.
Excellent experience. We enjoyed very much the evening, the food exceeded our expectations, great wine list, knowledgeable sommeliers and very lovely and attentive staff!
N. O. L.
Magical place. Had the tasting menu and was hugely impressed with the complexity, composition and just plain tastiness of every dish, along with very complementary wine pairings. Service was perfect also, informative and warm. Can't wait to go again!
S. H.
That's something different! It's for sure a 1 star service but the food is such a delight and different experience. Loam served us food that a) we have never experienced before b) used techniques that are just crazy (in a good way) and c) challenged our taste in just a fantastic manner. If you are up for a new food experience, go for it.
E. S.
The best restaurant I’ve ever been to. I’ve been on 5 continents and haven’t had a meal like this!!!
S. L.
Amazing food, great chef, and the staff are so friendly. Your meal is like a work of art when it is put in front of you and it tastes so good too. Lovely quiet atmosphere and the open kitchen is a bonus to your dining experience
A. H.
Perfect upper class foods of all sorts(vegan also)
M. B.
Truly inspiring! The 7 course menu was both creative and delicious and the wine pairings were equally interesting and very well presented. We had the extra cheese plate because we never wanted to leave.
P. A.
Fantastic dinner! Great experience. And staff was great. We had the tasting menu. The honeycomb dinner was incredible! Highly recommend the seafood [Oyster, Squid]. And the pigeon was cooked well. Must-do when in Galway.
M. C.
Where do I begin? This is a Michelin star restaurant and the food on the night we went was great. Our table overlooked the kitchen and we got to experience the dinner service from the perspective of the chefs and staff. However, something was lacking to earn Loam five stars from me. Maybe it was the lack of atmosphere or festive ambiance. I can't put my finger on it, but I'll definitely give this restaurant a try next time I'm in Galway.
R. W.
Had the absolute pleasure of dining at Loam earlier tonight... there are not enough adjectives to describe the food, service, wine, ambiance and whole experience. In particular staff were so nice and friendly but Lordy the food was truly amazing.
a. n.
The Loam is a fairies land an Enda McEvoy, a magician. We went there a little apprehensive: not to feel uncomfortable if the restaurant is too fancy, maybe the chef is too daring for our taste, maybe people around won’t be “our tribe”. And because we wanted to “taste” the place, we went for the whole tasting menu. It was the best culinary experience of my life. And because I love to cook, I was sure I shall find something to criticise along the way. I didn’t. The tasting offer announced that we are in there for a treat. The beetroot & apple, well, yeah... Heaven must taste similarly. The oysters: divine, the lamb: perfection, asparagus: another dimension, the 2 deserts: scrumptiousness... That lovage and the crumb... Angels dipped their fingers in Enda’s dish after they revealed the inspiration.
And I can praise and praise and praise. Sending compliments to the entire team couldn’t say it all.
I was looking for the perfect Irishness and, after 6 years, I found it: it’s humble and so normal in its perfect beauty and refinement. Yes: The Loam is the smartest, most perfect refinement of Irish normality. Thank you, Loam! Thank you, Enda McEvoy.
R. F.
My husband and I ended our honeymoon with an evening at loam and couldn't be happier for it. The food was surprising and exquisite, and the sommelier really knows his stuff. Loam is such a fresh take on a Michelin star dining experience, we will be back sooner rather than later.
G. M.
Fabulous taster menu. Excellent hosts.
S. B.
The best meal I've ever had. I really should eat in Michelin starred restaurants more often. Tasting menu with wine pairing an incredible experience.
J. P.
Have no idea how this place received a Michelin Star. The service was by far the worst I've had in a fine dining restaurant. Empty plates were not removed unless requested and I repeatedly had to wave down the wait staff who would stand around talking to one another since the restaurant was not very busy. Food was fine, but overall, not a place I would return to or recommend.
D. L.
One of the best dining experiences ever. Attentive, friendly and unhurried service. Tasting menu was sublime, and the wine pairings were fabulous
B. K.
Inventive and tasty, and not too fishy - an easy trap to fall into if focusing on flavours of this island nation. I especially liked the dusting of blue cheese on the beef tartare, it was a clever trick (clearly the cheese was frozen first) but importantly it also worked as a flavour and texture combination. Several of the wine pairings were very good also - I had the frutiest Sauvignon Blanc I've ever tasted with the first course (Balland Lombeline from Loire). The chicken custard with puffed pearl barley was also particularly fun - like a savoury bowl of puffed cereal.
If choosing between this and Aniar, I'd choose this. If going to both, I'd go to Aniar first.
S. M.
Gorgeous and warm atmosphere. Staff were very attentive and welcoming. Had such a wonderful experience trying the amazing selection of dishes .
R. M.
The food was delicious and the team were amazing!
D. W.
We really enjoyed our experience at Loam. We had the pesticarian 7 course meal and enjoyed most of the courses (Bar maybe the 1st course) The staff were friendly and accommodating and the general atmosphere of the restaurant is relaxing and enjoyable
A. T.
If you're looking for a big feast, this is not the restaurant for you! This is fine dining, but in a casual, West of Ireland way. There are 2 menus - a 7-course tasting menu (no choices) or a 2 or 3 course table d'hote (choice of 2 starters, 2 mains, 1 dessert and cheese). Plus snacks 😊
K. M.
Enjoyed a lovely refreshing glass of Chardonnay while watching chef Enda McEvoy and team quietly and efficiently getting ready for a busy Saturday night. Looking forward to dining there on my next visit to Galway. Lovely atmosphere with the sunshine streaming into the wine bar.
