Also from a COVID perspective, they were really diligent checking certs, ensuring protocol was adhered too but without making it seem onerous. We will definitely be back next time we are in Kilkenny.

The service is average compare to other restaurants in kk. No one asks if everything is ok and mainly I am disappointed. Kk has so many decent restaurants much better than this one.

L. K.One of the most disappointing meals I've had in years. Had high expectations given the reviews and the multiple years of Michelin recognition. In the end, what we had was a decent meal. Not terrible by any means but ultimately underwhelming. Not in the same class as many of its Michelin star or Michelin Bib counterparts in the country.
The most disappointing was the strawberry tart dessert. The biscuit base was little better than that from a frozen packet, topped with some strawberries and a strawberry curd. The ravioli starter was very al dente, borderline chewy, and not that flavoursome. The mains were good but not great. Vastly preferred Ristorante Rinuccini with it's simple, flavourful dishes.

Waiters didnt know who ordered what - fish bone and langostine shell in starter - 4.50 for what looked like frozen chips - which are not included on the set menu mains - the langostine lasagne starter was ok but you wouldnt go back to have it again - steak was fine but again nothing you wouldnt expect from most half decent restaurants - dessert was by far the best course. Maybe it was the price and the star - you expect it to be really good. Wine was good but for the price etc etc.

D. O.I arrived with high hopes, but still aware that I didn't belong, like when Shrek took over as King of Far Far Away in Shrek 3.
I ordered the 'Beef Cheeks', completely unaware of the mistake I had just made. It wasn't terrible, but if I made it myself, I'd be pretty disappointed, if my mother made it, I'd have her put down.
As the average patron would scan across the assortment of cutlery evenly layed out, and just pick the biggest fork to use; this place has all the needless pompous frills of that scene in Shrek 2 when Shrek had dinner with the royal family of the kingdom.
I guess it's not the food that you pay for, it's the spectacle; so if your ideal evening is reliving the colonial dream by having an adorable tanned man with an accent reluctantly cater to your every need, then taking out a second mortgage might be worth it.

But they totally deserve it.
Let me tell you why...
I was on a day trip to Kilkenny and decided to give it a try. It was one of the best decision I took that day :)
We went for the 3 course meal with wine.
The starters were amazing. My SO had the Guinea fowl sausage with lentils. The sausage was good, but the lentils were delicious, with a perfect seasoning. Lentils can be a little dull, but there it was a pleasure for the palate.
I took the Celeriac mousse, which can sound a little boring too... But was incredible.
There were so many different tastes in this plate, with the hazelnut dressing perfectly balancing the acid and sweet taste of the pickled ear. The celeriac mousse and chutney were very interesting (and delicious).
For now, perfect performance, Campagne!
The dishes arrived quickly after, with a colloquial and very nice waitress.
We shared the roast cod and the pork belly. Spoiler: both were a success.
The pork belly was tasty, perfectly grilled.
The plate was absolutely beautiful, and as good for the mouth as it was for the eyes.
What was the best in this dish was the jus, which gave an incredible taste to everything, including the cabage.
The roast cod was outstanding. Not only it was beautiful, but the piece of cud was huge and everything in this dish worked perfectly. The different tastes replied one to another.
I'm usually not a fan of cauliflower, but I couldn't stop myself from eating the whole plate. The lobster bisque emulsion and cauliflower purée were perfect with the cod... All this with fresh food and skilled cooking, what else?
The wine was exceptionally cheap and good (as a froggy wine lover!)
We had the Mont d'Or, and it passed the test of filling our 2-month good-cheese craving. Creamy, tasty, decadent... Yummy!
The dessert was also of high level. The chestnut ice cream was crazy good. The opera was nice but slightly lacked this layered feeling I love so much.
However, I would lie if I didn't say that it was really good.
The best surprise was the bill, which was of 32€ for the 3 course menu, and 9€ for 2 glasses of wine.
Long live Campagne! Thank you for this delish experience...
